I love House Plans. I drew house plans from the time I was in junior high school. I re-arranged my bedroom countless times on paper. I 'built' several new homes for DH and me -- on paper. My math skills are nil, so I was not about to become an architect, but I can look at a blueprint and see what a house will look like and how it will (or won't) work for daily living. (Love the House related forums on GardenWeb.) I'm pretty good at navigating -- maps and directions. My mother may have taught me that. She'd take me to Marshall Field's in Chicago and have me find my way from the furniture department (upper floor) to the State Street exit. I'm NOT a good 'decorator' -- at least not the important small stuff that puts finishing touches on a room. I can envision the look I want, but am timid about hanging pictures, etc. (Not timid about painting a whole room a glossy Hershey Bar brown, and liking it.) I enjoy reading and writing. I'm a visual learner. Journalism was my major. Thank goodness for you artsy-craftsy people and for the Math Able!

First, I want to thank the people who welcomed me to the group. I will try to check daily to see what's what... Is there some sort of order on the list of topics? It doesn't seem to be the latest message first the dates look to be mixed up... I did poorly in home ec sewing but found when my children were young I couldn't afford to buy much clothing for them. So, I felt forced to learn to sew better. Little did I know what a passion it would become for me. I am in my sewing room 8+ hours daily. Now, I am not always sewing or machine embroidering... lots of time spent on the ol' computer, I'm afraid. BUT, I have learned so much about and from the computer because of forums like this. It has been a Godsend for me and I can't imagine my life without a computer any more. My filing cabinet (old industrial 5 drawer)holds innumerable patterns for clothing. I still want to sew for myself making fun accessories and tops mostly since I live in jeans. I just purchased several patterns from individual designers that are unique but tasteful--IMHO, that is. I also wear aprons when in the kitchen and have recently ordered several retro-type apron patterns. I like the look and also the grease-spatter safety of my clothing underneath. I currently finished 4 tote bags made from nylon window screen. They were adorable and a garden center owner even offered to sell them if I'd make her some. No way... sewing is for pleasure now. Today I am hoping to finish a quilted table topper. All of these items are for my daughter and grans. I have pictures of the screen items on my desktop and am following the thread for downloading now. Hope to post pix but should it be under this topic if I do? Suzanne

So many talented people on GW/Houzz. I've enjoyed seeing everything. I don't have any pictures to share, but have done stitching (cross stitch, needlepoint, petipoint and embroidery). Several of my friends and I decided to do a holiday sale years ago, where I made a lot of rosebud topiary, rosebud picture frames and reindeer centerpieces. I've done numerous centerpieces and other floral arrangements, wreaths and topiary for our homes. Canvas art done with various pieces (coins, rings, keys, metal pieces, textured papers and cloth, etc). I've sewn curtains, tablecloths and costumes. Created several garden areas at our last home. I played the flute and piccolo in high school and was in an Army Reserve Band. I also twirled rifle in high school, and have the bad wrist to prove it! My most consist talent has been decorating/accessorizing.
