Hello Lisa, why are you trying to grow a banana? Does it conjure up tropical images? There is one growing next door that is hated by the other next door because it sends runners under the fence. It even has bananas but is not a thing of beauty. Micro clime thing. North slope, no frost. No banana plantation was ever on the flat. Does that help? I'd like to grow Lily of the valley, tulips, daffodils and a few other things but i know they would be a complete waste of time so i do not bother Somewhat on topic. I love Drosera capensis but it is not growing as well as it should for something that is supposed to send seed everywhere. Comment re. Minnie... Uh, how old are you? :-) The reason I'm asking is that it was Franklin Roosevelt who MOVED T-giving from it's traditional 4th Thursday, to the 3rd Thursday. He did this in the mid to late 1930s to create a longer Christmas shopping season. It had been traditionally the 4th Thursday for quite some time at that point, and when people complained long and loud, the holiday was moved back to the 4th Thursday only 2 years later. It wasn't until 1941 that Congress actually declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be observed on the 4th Thursday. Kind of funny when you think about the holiday that is so deeply ingrained in the American conscience really only being a formal holiday for just over 60 years.

That's the one!! Thank you both. Yes, it wasn't quite as contemporary as I remember but that's ok - my house is a bit more traditional anyhow. This is just such an inspiration to me and very soon we are going to redo the basement. I remembered this picture and had unfortunately not saved it.
