Doll and doll clothes

Hello
I want to make doll clothes for my little granddaughter and buy the doll. This is for a young child. What kind of doll do I buy? Does anyone here make doll clothes? Do you have to have a brand name doll to the make clothes and get a pattern or do you go by how tall the doll (any doll) is and use any doll pattern with the height of the doll?
Thank you B.

I bought some vinyl dolls that had molded hair in 2 sizes at Michaels a few years ago. You can buy them clothes or buy the patterns for their clothes also. ok, if it was not Michaels,it was Joannes. Also Hancock had some

Hi B.

Dolls of a given height are rearely the same body shape.

An 18 inch doll can be baby, toddler, child, teen or adult (lady)

Each of these body shapes vary dramatically.

I suggest that you buy the doll you thing your grandaughter would like and draft directly from the doll.

Basic patterns can easily be tizzed with a bit of lace and gathering.

Hope this helps - Peter

I collected dolls for over twenty years and the most damaged dolls were the soft bodied baby dolls. They were dirty and damage because they were soft and cuddly and loved to death. So I would buy her a baby doll, depending on her age of course.
