I have a french drain in the outside stairwell to the basement. We have had alot of rain this year and I have tried to keep it fairly clean clear of debris but there is still alot of dirt in it anyway tuesday when the remnants of hurricane jean dropped at least six inches of rain on us the basement flooded again What should I do now ? Call a plumber I am so sick of water in my basement I had the gutters replaced about three years ago Is there a cure for my flooded basement. I have lived in house for almost twenty three years and lately the flooding is worse and I know it comes in from the drain overflow. My house is from the 1940's Any advice or suggestions, that doesn't cost a fortune? Thanks. Sarah

RE: french drain?

Try running a plumber's snake thorugh the drain to remove any debris, or call a plumbing service to use a power rooter.

Few drins can cope with a hurricane's rainfall.

Thanks lazy garden That's where I am going to start (it's cheaper than getting the basement watrproofed)! Sarah
