Do NOT use ammonia. On anything. It's severely toxic to people and to the environment. They are friggen fruit flies, put away the nukes. The vinegar thing sounds fine, or plug the drains when you go to sleep. The season will be over soon, then he gross things will disappear. (and when ammonia is mixed with other chemicals, ie bleach, it releases deadly fumes)

I didn't se the original message re the fruit flies , but I assume the response that referred to vinegar was to fill a small bowl with vinegar, cover with cling wrap and puncture the wrap with a toothpick several times. The little buggers crawl in for treats , can't find their way out and DIE! A lot better than trying to swat them !
