please help if you've had a dead rat in your wall or house!

We removed a dead rat from our wall on Sunday evening (3 days ago). My husband drilled small holes in the wall and fished through a flexible camera to locate the rat. Then he cut out about a 8 x 8" square of dry wall and removed the (average sized) rat. We sprayed the board in the wall which the rat was resting on with lysol and dumped a few containers of baking soda (mixed with Borax) on the area prior to sealing the wall up again.

Now it's 3 days later and the smell of decay is still VERY strong in that area of the house. Do you think this is residual from the previous rat or do you think there is another rat we didn't find?

I.E.---if you removed a dead rat (from a wall or from anywhere else in your house) how long did the smell take to go away?

Any thoughts are so appreciated. Thank you!
