I don't think you want to use that in the long term, as I'm guessing it could get expensive having meals delivered. I'd say you just need to make better choices with your "grab and go" food. It only takes a couple minutes to toast a piece of bread and microwave an egg, or pour yourself a bowl of cereal with skim milk, or make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. How much time does it take to prepare a piece of fruit or a bag of baby carrots? You can get fast food sandwiches that are healthy, salads at fast food restaurants, and so forth....See MoreYoga and weight loss II
Comments (15)Exercising can be magical! I will not lie about that. Sometimes if you are stressed out it is because you are sitting around to long or haven't been getting proper exercise, that is most likely why the exercise "cleared your lungs." It is possible you are suffering from Insomnia. Insomnia is a symptom that causes many complications in the physical, mental and emotional quality of a person. When the body is severely attacked by chronic insomnia, the digestive system goes awry, and the liver is often in very poor condition. The nervous system is progressively destabilized, the person experiences exhaustion and wear, which affects their daily work. A vicious circle: the fatigue and inefficiency that results in the anguish of not finding restful sleep, which in turn leads to increasing difficulty falling asleep. Remember to always get as much sleep as your body needs and don't deprive yourself of it! Also since you said "it cleared my lungs" Here is a good yoga exercise for breathing: Hasta uttanasana: Yoga that Helps Breathing Stand up, feet together, arms dangling. Cross your wrists in front of the abdomen. Inhale deeply, raising your arms and stretching them above and beyond your head. Slightly bend your neck back and hold your breath a few moments. Exhale with open arms at your sides until shoulder height. Inhale. Cross your wrists again over the head. Hold the breath a few seconds. Exhale slowly, lowering your arms forward to regain the starting position. Do this exercise ten times. During the movement, feel the air go up a more lateral and open chest space. At the end, feel the air go out slowly and completely, as the thoracic space closes. Good luck! Comments (65)You should post your question in the fireplace forum to get lots of opinions. There is such a forum on gardenweb. My neighbor had some sort of deluxe fireplace installed. Not sure if it was an upgrade or if he never had one. He goes through mountains of wood but says it heats his whole house. He has a family room with a cathedral ceiling that has an opening to the second floor hallway and since heat rises...I think he said he used 5 cords of wood. I'm not sure, but I do recall thinking it was a lot of wood and it wasn't free (maybe one batch was free). I don't know how healthy that is to heat your house all the time with wood. Maybe it has doors and a filter...I don't know. He just got his gas bill and it was $50. Mine was $115, but I did have my mother-in-law here for a week with her "thin" FL blood so we had to keep the heat at 70-72 rather than 66-68. Neighbor and I both have tankless water heater. You might consider wood as a cheaper back up option and also ask on the other forum about a unit that can use gas and/or wood. That's what I would do if I had the $. On another note...MY gas usage on the current bill was higher than last year. Last year we used 65 ccf for a 28 day bill period with avg temp on bill listed as 49.6 This year we used 82 Ccf on a 33 day cycle with a temp of 45.5. The longer bill cycle, lower temp and mother-in-law makes it hard for me to see if my 97% heater, air sealing and tankless SAVED me anything over my old 91% furnace without air seal and my 57% water heater. I have to wait for a bill cycle that more closely matches the temp etc to tell if it helped or not....See MoreDumb question about diet/weight loss
Comments (20)Spark people was a huge help to me in learning how to get the weight off. I have hypothyroidism so it is doubly hard. I'm not using them now, but I do keep a food diary. That is the most consistent thing you are going to here from people who have lost weight: they keep a food diary. Just knowing you have to write it down when you swallow it is a huge help. and you need to be willing to write it down immediately too, not at the end of the day. Too many things get forgotten that way. I have a food diary that goes back to last July. I print it out every month. I don't even expect it will ever get read by anyone. Here is a sample: 3-17-09: [165.1] 9am: 2 oranges. 10:30am 6 oz. baked ckn, 4 oz baked sweet potato, 6 oz steamed cabbage. Like others, I'm became a complete sugar/empty carb/ white flour addict when I quit smoking. I just changed addictions. So that is an all-or-nothing thing with me, and I had to go with 'nothing'. I don't have it in the house. I also don't use any sugar substitutes because they are worse than sugar (most of them) and ALL of them set up the same chain reaction in your body that sugar does. What is surprising is that you really can get used to having a life of no sweetener except what is naturally found in fruits & veggies. I second the comment about how your cloths fit. Muscle is heavier than fat and is a boon to good metabolism, so you have the hardest part under control. I WISH I could exercise like that. Half is won't, half is can't. Between worn out knees and weak wrists, and general age & wear, there is a lot of exercising I just can't do. Even more that I won't lol. Go to sparkpeople.com. It's free and is the greatest place on the web for all kinds of support and education. Another good site is radiantrecovery.com (I think. Google it if not) where they can help you detox from sugar. Don't give up, you've got more than half the battle licked, being as active as you are. j...See Moremetabolism
