50 pounds! The milestone!

I have lost 50 pounds since last January! I lost the equivalent of an entire 3th grade child! I still have 25 to go but 50 seems amazing.

CONGRATULATIONS, BarnMom!!! You should be so proud of yourself. Keep doing what you're doing and that last 25 lbs will be gone before you know it.

Thank you! My report said to add 1.5 pounds of nitrogen, and 0.5 lbs of phosphate per 1000 sq feet. So, for my garden, that works out to .375 lb nitrogen .125 lb phosphate I'm going to guess I had about 400 pounds of manure. According to the USDA website: 4.30 lb/ton * 1/5 ton = .86lb nitrogen 1.65 lb/ton * 1/5 ton = .33lb phosphate I added a bunch of lawn and leaf compost too. (This stuff was aged for about 15 years at my dad's house). So, it looks like I should be good and I do not need to add any additional nitrogen. The only confusing thing is that a lot of instructions say things like "Before planting, broadcast and turn under 1.2 pounds of 5-10-10 fertilizer (or equivalent) per 100 square feet of area." (that was for asparagus). I'm going to assume since my nutrients are already likely at the recommended levels, I don't need to add anything extra as I plant things.

I know, I looked everywhere for it too, ended up biting the bullet and buying the fifty pound bag of Firecracker LS, and I must say, it's a pretty big bag. I probably only need 20 lbs of it, but I really wanted to get the top ranked spreading TF, so I figured it was worth it. I could part with 15 lbs no problem. Send me a personal message, I could probably get it out tomorrow if you are interested.

I forget the "rule of thumb" ratio, but no, the weight of poop is not anywhere near the weight of the inputs. First, much of the food weight is water. This is lost as leachate and evaporation. Second, the worms consume the food and expend energy so there is loss there as well. Yes, the worms will convert the bedding material into poop, but again, it isn't a 1-1 ratio between input and output. I am unsure what the ratio is, I have seen a rule of thumb before, but have no idea how accurate it is or what assumptions the rule is based upon. Since I am new to worm bins I asked some questions like this before and using my CoW (Can of Worms) came to believe that 2-4 months would be required for one 'bin' (tray) to be ready for harvest. At this point the material would roughly fill a 5 gallon bucket. How much it would weigh would be heavily dependant upon how wet it was at harvest time.

Wow, that's great! Congratulations. They should let you know at WW what your ideal range is, but it should be something you can maintain. The hard work is maintenance, trust me I know.

Go to a pet store and lift a 50 pound bag of dog food if you want a real ego boost! That's how much you've lost!!!!!

good for you!!! i have been on atkins since the end of may and have also lost 50 pounds. i feel and look better than i have in a long time. keep up the good work.

I am doing it the old fashioned way, eating less, exercising more. I am not following a specific plan but have cut out the things I know are bad, red meat, fried foods, butter, pastries, candy, etc. I eat fruit, salads, cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, chicken breasts. I do treat myself occasionally to a piece of candy or a cookie but not daily.

I don't have the patience to count anything, calories or carbs. I hated WW meetings. I couldn't take Jenny Craig food. So the only option left was to figure out how to make it work for myself on my own.

I walk an hour a day, up a hill if I can find one. I do 30-45 minutes of light weigh training, squats and crunches. I take an occasional day off if I a really tired or really busy. I don't go to a gym. I think taking some classes at a gym or getting some training advice might step up my progress but can't find a place to fit it in yet.

I eat 5 times a day, meals and 2 snacks. I keep the snack at about 100 calories and try to make it protein to keep my blood sugar steady. I take vitamin supplements and drink green tea.

Congratulations and best wishes for the future....I'm sure with the way you are headed, the 25 pounds you have left will be gone by this time next year!!
