| that until I can get more organized, that I will count calories and try not to exceed 1200 a day.
I have several things woking against me. One is that I have polymyalgia and even though exercise is good, I am limited to the amount and the intensity, because of total exhaustion. Also am on blood thinners because of atrial fibrilation and am extra sensitive to green veggies, salads, bananas, etc. Right now, my blood thinner has had to be increased as I very modestly tried a few of these things, being very careful that it was only a very limited quantity per day. I started off at 160 pounds which was too much in 2007. Shortly after starting prednisone, I jumped to 192. As the prednisone lowered, I managed to lose 12 pounds but had a couple of flare ups, so it has been partially increased and the dosage will stay that way until June 2010 unless another flare up. I now weigh 187. I'm sure that isn't all due to prednisone but partly my sweet tooth. My goal would be 145. I would like to be able to do this by June 25th 2010 How do I go about participating in the weigh-ins. From past experience, I feel that is what will help keep me motivated. I do appreciate all your support. Thanks ivamae |

| Ivamae, there's nothing to it. You're in. I'll record this as your weigh-in for this week when I start next week's thread. Sorry about your health problems. |

| Iva, how tall are you? What is your BMI? You need to make sure 1200 isn't going to throw your body into shock... do you have a calorie counter online? That was really helpful for me. See you in the weigh-in thread!!! |

| I calculated my BMI this morning and when I measured myself I was shocked. I used to be 5'7.25" I have degenerated discs and knew I was shorter but didn't realize how much. I measured 5'5.25 " My BMI worked out to30.9. That is disgusting. You asked about the calories. How many calories do you think I should be eating? I'm finding 1200 gives me lots of food so that I'm not hungry. It just means that I have cut back a great deal on sweets. I am eating more green veggies as I get my INR tested in a couple of days to see how the larger dose of thinners is working. I do want to be able to eat more lettuce, tomatoes, green beans, bananas etc. I'm very sensitive to some meds and don't react to them the way the Dr.s expect many times. We'll see what happens when I weigh myself to-morrow and also see what happens when my INR is tested. Won't know the results of that before next week. Thanks for your posting |

| Ivamae, At your height and weight, you are probably eating around 1800 calories to maintain the same weight. That's if you are not getting much exercise. If you want to lose say a pound a week on average, you have to eat 500 calories less per day than that. That works out to about 1300, so I think you are in the right ballpark with a 1200 calorie diet. You might try it a couple of weeks and see how much you lose, then adjust it accordingly. |
