Happy MONDAY to you, Raeanne. Nice to see you back with us.

This week proves to be full of work at the office and at home, but I'm ready for it.

I'm just about to go off to the corporate fitness center for a one-on-one with the instructor. I've been away from my yogilates class for months because of inner ear stuff, but I need to get back. She has promised me that the fitness center is free of execs during the 2-3pm hour, and she will help me with some balance issues. I want some treadmill and bike time too; maybe light weights. I need to get back in the groove but not ready for a class yet. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, 55 posts - hope I'm not posting on the wrong thread again. I like the QOD's. For clothes, I don't have much now. I have one leopard-print top that I've worn to shreds. I don't feel stronger or faster, but I feel safe in it for some reason, like I can face people easier. When I was young and still had a good body, I had a few things that I felt great in. I had a matching raincoat and umbrella that was a fall print with leaves. I felt perfect in it, like everything was okay. I had some jackets that I felt safe and good in - one was purple velvet and one was a plaid beach jacket with big pockets. For shoes, I rarely have more than three wearable pair. Right now I have a pair of moccasins, a pair of black sandals, and a pair of those Hawaiian clogs, but most of the time I go barefoot, lol. For childhood cereals, my favorites were cream of wheat with brown sugar and cheerios, either dry or with milk and sugar. I liked sugar crisp, too, when it came out and back in the days when it was still okay to call something sugar crisp. For cartoons, my first attachment was to Mighty Mouse. I loved the way he was a puny little mouse, but could get strong and save people in trouble. Then I think I liked all the hero ones - The Lone Ranger, Superman, etc. I've been saying for awhile that I'd put up pictures of Second Life, the virtual reality world I'm playing in. I have a few on my blog now. It's at wwwjoy.agelessserenity.org, and I'll add the link below for anyone who might be curious. I'm permanently low-carbing now, though not as low as I probably should be. It is better for my fibromyalgia as well as for my weight. I recently got that new power chair I've been working on getting for a couple of years now, so I can get to the post office and the mini mall again, though I haven't tried it yet. Heather is still fine and as good and sweet as always. My son and granddaughters are planning to come and visit this summer. My son recently started working with a game company who makes a product called Realmcrafters. Seems like we are all into the virtual reality scene. Seems like people here are doing okay over all, and I'm glad for that. I know I miss a lot, but at least I come by and catch up. I'm into the Oprah presentations of Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth." Anyone here have ideas on that, and on the expectation that we are in a process of catalytic evolution? I had more, but lost it. At least I saved to this point, fortunately, as I couldn't write it all over, lol. I'm glad to see so many staying with it and new people coming on board, too. Take care and eat healthy! Hey! Have a great weekend, everyone! Friday: Went to a garden party at the local nursery. Dress up affair with wine, appetizers and desserts while strolling along, looking at the new spring plants. They had a cool smooth jazz band. I met up with a gal pal there and it was fun! Saturday: Having a luau bday party for my 9 yr old. Starts at noon with hot dogs, SUN chips, and Capri SUN drinks, along with bday cake and Hawaiia music! Then we're playing Aloha sack races, pin the coconut on the tree, the wrapping paper game, limbo. After that, I have a video of "How to do the Hula". We're having everyone dress Hawaiian and greeting them at the door with leis and then taking their picture. While the party is going, my DD is going to print the pics and put them in little Hawaiian shirt frames and place them in the goodie bags, slong with Aloha mints, bracelets, and blow up beach balls. I have little Hula bears and other fun stuff for prizes. It'll be a fun day! At 3 o'clock, I'm going to veg out and crash!!!!! Sunday: Picking up my kids' cousin for the week (spring break) and we're heading for the Oregoin coast for a week. Life's a beach! After picking her up, we're going to visit my friend with the twins. The teens will watch the twins while I and my girlfriend clean house and help her get ready for a garage sale she's having next weekend. Sunday night, one of DH's friends rented a place and is giving a slide show. He's a photographer who travels the world and his shots are really awesome. It should be a GREAT show! Monday, first thing in the morning, I'm off to the coast! DH is putting together a new laptop for me, so I'm going to try to check in a couple times by wireless connection while I'm gone. Make this weekend a good one! PS: I forgot to mention, LAUNDRY!!!!! In between everything, there's the ever-present laundry. Raeanne???? Are we still doing laundry together on weekends? LIFER HERE!!!! I was a bit nervous about my weigh in. At my CURVES pre weigh in I was up~~WW's scales weigh less but I still had gained 1.5 pounds on the WW's scales as compared to last Friday. BUT it was still less than my goal weight so I will not beat myself up for that!! I went into this just wanting to get anywhere under 150, so 143.5 is not bad!! I did not get another charm for my key chain, they give you a lifer memebership card:( I wanted a charm LOL!! But, my WW's leader gave me flowers:) I was so surprised and a very nice framed quote to help you stay on task:) She really is a sweatheart! I know she has to pay for them herself, so that makes it extra special. She had me come up and tell everyone what I liked about the plan and what I did that helped me make it work:) I do Core and she had me talk about why I chose that since most folks do not do it. I thought I was done and she said NO there is one more thing you did that worked best for you?? I could not think of it and the other gals were trying to help me think too:) Finally she says 'you never missed a meeting' YES!! That is true and it did help alot! She wanted the others to know how important that is:) As I was leaving I went to chat with the receptionist (a man who has lost 66lbs) he told me I should apply for a job with WW's, the leader talked to me about that too~~~I would maybe do the weigh ins (receptionist). But, never a leader you have to know too much:) I wonder how much they pay and how often you do it? I already have a 10-2 job during the school year do I want more?? Not really but then I thought maybe that would be good for me to help keep my weight off. What do you think?? It was 107 here yesterday and is going to be hotter today how can that be?????? WC what is it like up in your area??? I am going to be in Frisco in a couple of weeks and up in Santa Cruz also. Is it going to be cooler for me?? I want it alot cooler???? WC have you ever been to Half Moon Bay?? I am reading a book that part of it takes place there?? I think I will have my DH drive through it just so I can say I was there:)

Good evening! It's 86 F. and the mosquitoes had a nice dinner on me - literally! I have bites on my face and on my hands and knees. All the fun spots that I can't resist scratching in my sleep. Donna, I'm so sorry for all you're going through. Be strong and post more often for lots of (((hugs))). Jan, I have severe osteoporosis and have been on Fosamax for 6 years with good results. I'll never be perfect, but my bones are stronger than they were at 55. I also take two calcium tabs every night before bed. Raeanne, I really hope my son loves this birthday gift. In the last few years, I've taken the safe way out and just gone with a GC. And, I didn't make it to Dallas after Christmas this past year, so my sister and decided to just wait until this weekend to exchange gifts. I don't usually wait quite this long! Still lots of packing to do. I keep thinking of things like sheets and spring rods to take to my Dson for when they move into their new home in late August. That's what I used until we got our window coverings, and it was helpful. I also need to take Alexis's (9 yr. old DGD) books to her that she forgot last visit. I haven't seen her in a month, and I really am excited to see her tomorrow night when she flies in from AL and visiting my xh and his wife. Guess I'd better get back to it because experience has taught me that nobody else is going to do my packing for me! Have a great rest of the week!

I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I'd stop in and say hello.
Today is DH's first day of retirement. I was convinced to work for one more year, then I too am calling it quits (at least at the preschool).
I have been really laid back this summer, as I try to mnentally recover from a stressful school year.
Had some company stay with us, been reading, getting ready for a garage sale. I also have to get back in the cooking mode, since DH worked the 3-11 shift for 18 years and I didn't cook except on his days off.
We are having homemade pizza tonight for his first official day off.
Hugs to all who have suffered losses in the recent months, congrats to those who reached goals (or set goals) and special hugs to George! LOL

Hello, everyone.

Well it is good I had that wiggle room this week. After attending a couple of get togethers and too much food, the wiggle room is gone. I gained back that one pound advantage. It is so easy to go astray.

Anyway hope it is back off next week.

Hope everyone has a great week. Summer is going so quickly.

Hi - Day two of DH's retirement and we haven't had any arguments yet! LOL We are not used to so much time together, so I still expect that adjustments will have to be made.

Kielbasa on the grill and a tortellini salad for dinner.

If someone could just give me ideas for dinner every day and do the grocery shopping, I wouldn't mind the cooking end of it at all. I think I am going to have to break out some of my old cookbooks and hit the internet for ideas. I love to bake more than I love to cook though, but since I know that isn't good for either one of us, I'll have to stick to baking for special occasions and company.

Time to fire up the grill,

Hey Marci,

I cook at least 4-5 nights a week and try to plan dinners using some chicken, pork, fish, beef. Most nights I use the grill to do the protein!! I add rice, potatoe, or pasta as sides....always a salad, but I mix it up with different veggies and dressings (example: chicken with rice may get a salad with dried cranberries, nuts, soft cheese, and a honey mustard dressing). If I do a pasta dish, I do romaine salad with a Good Seasons' Italian dressing or homemade, lower-fat ceasar dressing.

Leftovers get a different twist----beef and rice? add peppers and onions with asian spices----veggies and a bit of chicken or pork? get out the pasta pot; just add olive oil and garlic to the cooked pasta and leftovers.

Dee-I went shopping today and bought shrimp, pork chops, chicken tenders and 2 Delmonico steaks. Hopefully this will keep things varied and interesting. Now when did you say you were coming to help me cook? LOL

I found this shrimp recipe in my old SS files. So dinner tonight is grilled shrimp and fresh corn on the cob. Will probably make a side salad to go with it.

Spicy Grilled Shrimp

1 large clove garlic, minced
1 tsp. Kosher salt
Â¼-Â½ tsp. cayenne
1 tsp. paprika
2 T olive oil
2 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice (about Â½ a lemon)
1 T melted butter
1Â½ lbs. large shrimp, peeled, rinsed and drained well

Preheat grill or broiler (I have used my Foreman Grill).
Mix the minced garlic with the salt; mix in the cayenne and paprika; add the olive oil, lemon juice and melted butter. Add the shrimp and stir to coat. Let sit in refrigerator for 1 hour.
Place shrimp on skewers* by bending slightly and poking the skewer through each shrimp twice. This will prevent shrimp from spinning when you turn the skewers.
Grill or broil the shrimp about 2-3 min. per side, turning once.

*If you are using wooden skewers, presoak the skewers in water to prevent them from burning.

Hi all!

Marci--Yum! That sounds good--and different--than what we've been eating, which is a definite plus. I'm getting tired of what we have around here. :)

Well, I am bragging on myself, but I finished my anatomy class as the top student, and got publicly acknowledged by the professor. :):) I was shocked, and yes, my head is swollen, but man! Am I proud of me! It's nice to feel smart once in a while!

Busy weekend ahead; family reunion tomorrow, and start studying for my final final on Tuesday.

Happy Saturday, everyone! It's a beautiful day here in Dallas, and a warm one - 100 F!

Needless to say, I'm staying indoors a lot lately, and the cooking has been interestingly healthy! My friend and I are really enjoying seeing how tasty and healthy we can make our meals, and it's been fun, and I'm losing weight!

Maddi, congrats to you, woman!!! I'm proud of you!

Suzanne, I don't miss the humidity of SE Texas - not that we don't have a few humid ones up here, but not daily. The mosquitoes are almost as bad though.

Ivamae, hang in there on the weight. You seem to be doing so well!

Marci!!! So nice to read your posts this week. If you and hubby can survive the first week, all should prove well. Does he like to cook or at least plan meals? That would help a lot. Get him hooked on the Food Network!

Dee, did you survive the talking-to you gave yourself this week? I'm always harsher on myself than anyone else could ever be, I know.

Raeanne, get back in here, missy! I always enjoy reading your posts.

Tonight is light snacking - probably cantaloupe, a small chunk of Queso Asadero cheese, and light popcorn - since lunch today was a big country dinner of pork loin, fresh picked pinto beans, cornbread, and slaw. Tomorrow I'm going over to visit my son, his wife, her mom, and baby Paxton who is now 2-1/2 weeks old and oh, so cute in his pics son posts on FB. It's a long drive from where I'm staying so I'm limiting myself to a weekly drive over. Can't wait!

Rabbit-Rabbit!!

Hi Milkdud - Nice to see you posting too. I bought my first cantaloupe this week and it was delicious! My neighbor's son is named Paxton and his twin sister is Peyton. Cute as can be. Hope you have a nice visit.

Can't believe it is August already!

I have a graduation party to go to today and then I need to catch up on some ironing. I love cotton but hate the upkeep.

Rabbit! Rabbit! Hard to believe it's already August. The summer has flown by, hasn't it?

I got to sleep later than usual, but after a hearty breakfast, I'll be out helping my friend haul brush to the front curb for large pickup tomorrow. The temp reached 108 yesterday, and it's not supposed to be any cooler again today.

By the time it's really warm here, I'll be holding my grandson in his a/c'ed house, so life is good! Breakfast will be crustless quiche, and dinner tonight will be grilled fish tacos.
