Good Monday all,

Dee, ((((((HUGS)))) to you. So sorry and hope you are feeling better.

I tried to get caught up with everyone here over the weekend. There is just so much going on that I find myself short of time.

Long story short - I had a great time in Acadia which I will share later. Got home on the 28th of June, had the 29th off to get my self together after being gone for 8 days. My last chore of the evening was in the barn. I stepped out of the stall and laid my right ankle over sideways. Have a level three sprain! For once DH was home the next day to help with that whole week. I am going fairly well - quite mobile but the ligaments are still very painful and I have to be careful. Also, during that week my 10 new chicks came so that was a nice diversion. WHAT IS IT WITH MY FEET?

Donna, I wanted to share that those wonderful cozy pink socks you gave me were very comforting on my poor foot.

I will try to catch up later but wanted you all to know I am alive and pretty well!!

Good Monday evening, friends!

The wedding weekend was wonderful. The bride/my niece was beyond beautiful as were all her attendants, including my 3-3/4 yr.old greatniece and her mom/my oldest niece. My sister was dressed so lovely and she and her husband both enjoyed the wedding and reception so much, as did everyone there. It was just the best of times with all the family on hand.

(((Dee))) So sorry for the loss of your aunt.

(((Suzanne))) Bless your heart about your ankle. At least you have wonderful memories of your trip to keep you company while you're taking life easier!

I'll be going over to youngest Dson's house on Wednesday to babysit until Friday afternoon. This time, I'm taking my own computer so that I can read and post.

Hello Ladies, Fate saved me from the butterfinger, the machine was only taking exact change and I only had 3 quarters, so was 5 cents off.. I had some dried apricots instead :) Let me say it was no easy feat getting back in here. They no longer take payments by mailing them in, so I had to deal with paypal. Last year I gave up on them. I forgot my password from an old account and my credit card changed and I didnt keep the old one.. so after tons of email back and forth with them I gave up. This time I just made a new email and tried to make a new account.. again I had all kinds of issues and it ended up that my cookie settings were too secure. So after the 10th try it finally went through.. all that for $15! but its over and done with. They also toned down the security here at work so I can reach the site again, that could change again soon but hopefully im not here at the hospital much longer. Ive been lurking though, and keeping up a bit with whats going on. Its good to see some new names and always good to see the ole timers (no pun intended!). For thoes who do not know me; I found the site when I started on the SS plan about 5 or 6 years ago. Im a guy :) 34, and live in southern NH, about 60 miles north of Boston. Ive been overweight since about the 7th grade, got down to a slim 170 pounds when I was in the army and ballooned up to 260 about 3 years after I got out and stayed there a few years. Thats about when I found this gem of a place and since then lost and have maintained 30 pounds. I never expect to get back down to 170, I wasnt very happy or comfortable that thin anyhow, but I would like to get back down to under 200. Low carb diets never did work well for me, I lost a whole 1 pound on the Atkins plan, and nothing on SS after over 2 months on each. The way I did loose weight was cutting out the junk food, fast food, and pre packaged crapola, and exercising! Last month my Dr dropped the bomb on me and told me im a diabetic type 2 and my blood pressure is on the high side, so now I have more reasons than vanity to drop some weight. Ive made some pretty decent lifestyle changes so far, cut out a lot of salt, made the computer at home off limits (mainly because I sit in front of one all night at work), stopped smoking, but still have a few to go. I need to exercise more and get off the night shift. The problem I seem to have is that I work overnights, so when I get out of work im beat. It also makes it harder to find people to do activities with as im sleeping or working when they are off. I also work every other weekend so that doesnt help. So thats my story and im sticking to it. Whats been new? well im waiting to hear on a new job. I will find out wed/thur. Its days and I would be managing a product line for a petroleum company. They pay is nice and its a 10 min walk from my place, and it would be great to go back to a normal 8-5 job and have my weekends off. Im keeping my fingers and toes crossed. Ive been datting on and off, some good some bad, but always interesting. Ive been seeing the current vicitm since last july. Weve been taking it fairly slow and really only have been serious about it for the last 4 or 5 months. I was working an odd schedule last fall and she was busy trying to sort out her health, so we would be lucky to see each other once a week. Thats gotten a little better. There is more to the story, but its long and complicated, perhaps another day :) To help us get more exercise we just bought kayaks. The budget was kinda tight so I ended up getting a recreational one that is good for flat water paddling on lakes and easy rivers. Its a Palmico 100, and I got a good deal on it over the web by getting it shipped to a local store where I can pick it up soon I hope! Its a plastic boat and only 10ft, but I was able to pick it up with all the gear for just under $500. I only have a 12 ft wall to store it on, so that kind of limited me as well. There is a huge lake about 5 miles from my house where I can plop it in and get some exercise and a nice view. Its our towns water supply so there are no large boats, swiming or jet skis allowed, so its nice and quiet and has lots of wild life, a good portion of it borders the Audobon societys preserve. I cant wait to get up there and paddle around in the mornings. We also plan to do some river and camping trips this summer. Well that about wraps it up, a small book too! Hi! I am here, just in a funk and slowly coming out of it. DD moved last week to Lousiana and it hit home that I now officially have an empty nest. At least while she was at school, I knew she could come home any weekend she chose. Lousianna is just so FAR away. But they made it safely (in a U-Haul towing her car!) and I have kept in touch with her almost daily. So the comunication is there, but I miss her. I have been keeping busy reading, scrapbooking and cleaning out DD's empty room. It has been so HOT here, that I have been content to stay inside with the AC on. It is supposed to be nicer tomorrow and I am going with DH to a car show (he will drive his 62 Nova). Besh - I have read so many books this summer that I would have a hard time listing them all. I did read "The Glass Castle" and loved your comment about it being a "real" memoir! LOL I too thought it was an amazing book and marveled that she and her siblings survived at all. I am reading "Thunderstruck" by Erik Larson right now. I love his writing and attention to detail. I also read "Isacc's Storm" and "The Devil in the White City". He must do an incredible amount of research before he starts a book. I just finished listening to "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer. I have to say I cried. Other notable recent reads are, "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen, "Left to Tell" (about the genocide in Rwanda) by Immaculee Ilibagzia, and "The Butterfly House" by Marcia Preston. Next up, "Lean Mean Thirteen" by Janet Evanovich. DeeMarie - I have been doing exercises to strengthn my back and keep the muscles stretched and it seems to be helping. I can't sit for too long at the computer, so I haven't been logging on as often as I used to. I can't even sit and read for too long without needing to get up and stretch and move around. I love getting books on tape at the library and listening to them where ever I am. I am considering getting an MP3 player and using my library's resources to download books. Have you read LM13 yet?? Jen - Poor Erica! One time my DS broke his finger and I didn't take him to the doctor's until the next day. He also needed 2 pins to reset the finger. I felt like the worst mother of the year that day. Glad to hear she is on the mend. Patti - Glad Dave got a good report and you can go forward with your trip to TX. I never did get to see those pictures of your DGD! If you get a chance, email me. NHSuzanne - We had such severe storms the last few days too. Trees down in the neighborhood all around me, but we didn't suffer any damage. I am glad you got the brakes fixed and were able to go to VT. I don't have much of a backyard, but I did get some pictures of our local wildlife last week. Can you tell what this is a picture of? DH's is letting me know he is hungry, so I am off to the kitchen. OK, if I have time to check in, there is no excuse for you. [[[[[[[[[[Donna]]]]]]] so sorry about your family loss. Our friend's cousin was a news anchor in Tampa years ago..with a horrible end to her life. So sad for everyone. I have been listening to "Intuitive Eating" CDs, which accompany the book. It has really helped me identify emotional and mindless eating over the last week. I hope to use this to see if I can just stop dieting. No diet has helped me for long. This shows you a new way to look at all food; nothing is off limits. No guilt over what you choose, but I am definitely eating less during the day. Not getting on the scale either; I'll know if I can break through this mindless stuff. Also cut out 99% of the salt I used; I'm tasting food again. Really wierd but it seems to be clicking with me. Again, no diet; just trying to change my relationship with food. Will let you know how it's working from time to time. Tikanis, how was your weekend? Check in with us! Good Morning. I have caught up on the posts and need to get an address for Jen. I e-mailed her via this site, but have gotten no response. I have her in the b-day exchange and I need to send her a package. NH Suzanne - big HUGS for you. I hope DH snaps out of it. Sounds like you have the best therapy for it all....taking a ride on our favorite horse...Sweet Pea. I have be MIA...sorry. I have had 4 teenagers in the house for the last week and a half. It has been very trying for us as DH and I are not used to kids. It is fun, exhausting and expensive. We have been boating this weekend and my neice got a nasty sunburn. A blister has formed on her back about the size of a quarter. I feel bad, but I witnessed all the sunblock being applied, so I guess it comes with the territory being in florida and all. We have them for three more days so I will post agin later.... two of them just got up, so breakfast duty calls.

I just lost a post and am very frustrated and short on time.

quickly, I sent Suzanne more hugs and was wondering if she is back at work, congrats on the new chicks. I was happy that Milkdud had such a perfect time at the wedding. I am also thinking BJ moved as she hasn't been on here. Thinking of Dee, Jan, Maddie, Patti, Besh, Donna and hugs to all!

Good morning!

I loved the chairs, too! Too many to pick a favorite, but especially liked the cows, the bird (egret? heron) and the cattails, the child's chair with the fairy. What talented folks!

Getting ready to walk. It is so humid so early. We're walking at 6:30 and it's already too warm. Slap me if I ever complain about being too cold (like that's going to happen - ha!)

Have several new neighbors on our street - yesterday one of them wanted me to go with them to one of our garden nurseries. We had a ball. I came home and planted a yellow knockout rose, a pink muhly grass (the one that turns a vibrant, cotton-candy pink in the fall - so cool-looking!) some herbs (they were $1 - rosemary and basil) a pomegranate shrub - have no idea, so planted it in a planter until it gets some growth to it. Has pretty flowers, though!

Re: WW. I gained for the first time since January - 8/10 of a pound. I had steak for dinner the night before - first red meat I've had in months. It was good, and I enjoyed it with a glass of wine, but next time I'll have that kind of meal on Friday night!

suzanne, I hope your ankle is feeling better. That had to hurt! Mine has done that to me before, without any warning. Someone told me there's some kind of stabilizer that you can buy that will help strengthen your ankles. I've thought about checking into it, because I would like to be able to start running one of these days, instead of walking. We'll see.

Better get moving. Hope it's a great day for all.

Raeanne, love those chairs. You put me to shame with all your local activities. I can barely get a 30-minute walk in my schedule along with work and taking care of DH. If I could afford it now, this job would be a thing of the past. LOL!!

Dee - If I could do away with the day job I could actually have a clean house hahaha. You are one to talk of all the charity events you are involved in.

Jan - That is a Great Blue Heron and it is definitely the showstopper. There is so much detail to it, she really did a fantastic job. $1 herbs what a deal!

The sun is actually shining and the sky is clear of clouds. It is a strange sight these days, but I am loving it.

Milkdud - my husband is on stand-by to bid on my cow just in case no one else does. This auctioning stuff can be hard on a person's ego LOL.

I just picked up an Adirondack Ottoman to paint to go with my chair LOL. I will surprise them with that the day of the auction.

Raeanne, if I could I would save you by bidding on your cow chair, but it would look a bit strange in my neighborhood. I think I was in my 20's before I saw a live cow. Quite shocking! LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First 1/2 day of babysitting the DGD's. My oldest DGD is here, so that's the best news ever! Aubrie is an adorable ringtailed tooter about naptime, but we're going to work on that through Friday afternoon. Where is Super Nanny when we need her? LOL

I have now officially missed 4 TOPS meetings in a row. It's always something keeping me from going this last month, and I will be so happy when life returns to normal for me by the end of this month. I haven't gained anymore, but neither have I lost. Nobody seemed to care one way or another during the wedding weekend, and I was comfy in my own skin, so that helped me a lot. But, I do want to feel lighter on my feet, so I'll return to my meetings ASAP and get going again. Oh, if only I could do as well as Jan!

Alexis (9-1/2 yr. old DGD) and I are going out to dinner in a bit, then I need to find some kind of shirt suitable for the 'Divas on Safari' event next Friday. I also want it to be something that I'd wear other times, so we're not talking gaudy here.

Where is everyone? I'm hoping that BJ's absence means she's too busy unpacking and settling in. But, where are the others?

Gotta go watch 'Max and Ruby' with Aubrie now. Wonderful Wednesday wishes!

Happy THURSDAY!!!

Only one more day until the weekend and I can leave this office for 2 days.

Happy, happy dance! I zipped up a suit skirt that has not fit me in almost 3 years. Was not comfortable enough to wear all day here as it's linen, but it's a step forward.

QOD: What's up for the weekend?

We have no definite plans. I need to decide on color and package extras on my new lease from Nissan. That's about it; next week I pick whatever it is up. I'm not too snobbish on cars; I insist, however, on a new one every 3 years, so I lease. Costs more, but I feel I owe myself that treat after years and years of basing all financial decisions on whether my car need a new trans or tires. LOL!!

Dee, I am LMBO at your comment "Quite shocking" about seeing a cow. I guess if you never saw one before it would be, but it just cracks me up. Coming from New England I can't remember ever not seeing a cow! You are too funny.

I don't really have more time. Today is first day of my vacation and I am cleaning the house so the rest of the time I don't have to worry about living in this squalor.
