Why I get disgussed Just my rant here
Comments (34)Cdbob, I get where you are coming from, trying to do this "cheaply as possible" was what I was trying to do as well, but a few small & inexpensive purchases as Dave & others mentioned will work wonders, I agree. This is my first yr doing so & this past week I got our first harvest & the tomatoes were awesome compared to store bought! I used small containers like yogurt cups with holes drilled in bottoms & some cups (Solo red disposable cups you get at walmart, like what you would use for a bbq or kid's birthday party, they were 30 for $3.45 or something like that) & used soil-less seed starting mix (Jiffy brand form Walmart for $3.47 a bag, one bag more than enough for our small garden, Lowes also had Ferry MOrse & Miracle grow brand for similar price). I bought some seeds from some sources recommended here & got some from some generous people here for SASE and some from Trudi's website wintersown.org for sase also. I wanted to try different types to see what grows best for us here in FL. & what each person in the family likes best, but didn't have alot to spend, so this worked wonderful. The seed starter works awesome! I had tried seeds from store bought tomatoes and had no results worth anything except for seed from a purple cherokee I got at a store. Everyone here is very helpful & has lots of good advice. Try again using cups or something larger than the egg carton, I do use egg cartons but for germinating small flowers like pansies, violas & nasturtiums & use seed starting mix in the cartons for these. Good luck & give it a try using the info you got here. Visit Trudi's wintersown website for free seeds (she will sendyou small pkts of at least 6 types you choose for the cost of an envelope and 3 stamps, one to mail to her & two on the sase to return to you!) Good luck!...See Morejust a rant
Comments (1)What a hoot about Lowe's. Have a motion flood on the corner of the house outside a bay window in the master bedroom. Finally had to shut it off as it was constantly coming on for no known reason and lit the bedroom like day light even through the blinds. Think maybe it's cats or bats....See MoreVenting - just a mini rant....
Comments (17)In some ways I wish I just made my decisions without doing any research so I could at least bask in the "isn't it wonderful?" for a little while before the harsh realities started to show. Is it just me???? True to all! Just for a few minutes I'd like to bask lol! I couldn't agree more so yes, yes, and yes to all! that was good therapy for me to read this thread! For some reason it makes me feel good to know others are in the same boat LOL Geez, I think I'm losing my mind sometimes! Really?! i haven't even contacted my KD in over a week because I have had kitchen paralysis. I purposely busied myself with extra work hoping if I stepped away from all this kitchen stuff I would have some clarity when I came back to it. I was able to make some decisions but now needing to make a decision on a range hood and I have literally called three range hood manufactures and one twice! I'm second guessing everything. my kids have teased they will graduate before I finish the kitchen. My friends say I'm just not ready to do it. totally agree! Making all these choices is not fun like it should be. I second guess every little thing I pick and find myself just picking whatever to just be done with it. lakeerieamber I hear you and I think I'm starting to go in the just picking something and be done with it mode! Melis918 just posted about tile help and like the next day she said she ordered. I was so envious. And my mom went shopping last week and saw some wood tile she liked and sent me a pic. She is having it installed today! And is so excited about it. I have lost the quick decision making and just the fun and excitement of just picking something to now just mulling it over and over researching. Ugh!...See MoreOT - just need to rant to other gardeners who will understand
Comments (21)Yes, most of us can certainly sympathize! I'm sorry you're dealing with this, and it's hard to ignore things like this when you work so hard on your own property. At least there's a good fence. My neighbor across the street is on disability, and something of an alcoholic I gather. The house isn't too terrible from the outside, aside from needing a good power washing and one boarded up window. What bothers me is that he has a collection of bright red, Target shopping carts that he uses to collect recyclables and transport them to the recycling center for the deposit. I wouldn't mind so much if he kept the carts reliably on the side of the house, out of view, but he regularly leaves them right square on the front lawn or his driveway, and of course they're bright red. Sometimes he abandons the carts here and there on the side of the street, to return for later I suppose. At times, he keeps other sorts of metal recycling in front of the house. Especially annoying was a refrigerator that sat out there for several months. I eventually made a comment to him about it "do you need help moving that?" and he got the hint and it was gone within the week. The only saving grace is that he is very nice and friendly, and does occasionally take the hints that I drop. My dream is to one day buy the house and flip it, or maybe retain it as a rental property. I have already visualized what I'd plant on the property, so I can look across the street and see something pretty from my front windows. Patience is key! -Chris...See MoreUser
