Ready to give up -Just a rant - sorry
Comments (10)I've been building up a sandy soil here for 3 years and still have to water twice a day during the hottest, driest months to make anything grow. Most veggies I now start in pots in a shady area and transplant them in the garden when they are hardy enough. As far as selling vegetable transplants grown in pots, I find greens (unusual such as mizuna, red mustard, swiss chard, arugula) can be seeded outside in pots in Sept-Oct for sale in the fall market. As far as tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers, I seed these inside about New Year's Day to be ready for planting in early March. One other techinique I use is...just plant some seeds every week...who knows water the weather will be and some will take...goood luck...deb...See MoreJust a mini-rant about blogs.
Comments (10)Hahaha! I thought perhaps I was just having an EMCM (Early Morning Curmudgeonly Moment), but I'd probably find it annoying at any time of the day. There are a couple of blogs I've stopped reading entirely because the writers (who do a nice job of restoring vintage pieces) insists on naming them: Rosa, Miss Ella, Gertrude, Marilyn, Bobbie Jo. Please. It's like cutesy-overload gone viral. One blogger starts doing it, and others pick up on it, and it becomes a silly trend. I've also really started noticing how many bloggers take photos of the same vignette from numerous angles, ever since somebody mentioned it here in another thread. I don't want to see your Santa-under-a-bell-jar photographed 27 different ways....See MoreJust a little rant
Comments (6)Robin It's irritating to us, but ppl are buying them...just like paint-sprayed plants (even worse to me). I copied parts of the post by Justin from Costa farms - he reacted to some of us ranting about these (crazy) marketing methods: ..."We do glue flowers on to cacti when it's requested by a retail customer. It's not something we do on our own"... ..."However, the indoor plant market is not growing. Fewer and fewer people are buying indoor plants. We are producing Desert Gems to try and catch the attention of new folks --- the ones who are "plant blind" and don't even notice indoor plants when they walk by them. It's our hope that we can attract their attention, get them to try a plant, and then be more open to growing traditional Houseplants in the future to grow the industry. Will it work? Who knows, but it's something we're trying. I know Desert Gems don't appeal to real plant lovers like me and yourself, but if there were more of us out there, we wouldn't need to try marketing gimmicks with plants in the first place"... -Just one of the threads on the subject-...See MoreJust a wee rant...
Comments (3)I am sorry, things are not going like you want. You need to sit down with your DH and explain exactly how you feel. Also you need to put your foot down, so you get the rooms you want, and not what someone else wants. Your contractor doesnt have to live there. You are the one that needs to work in these spaces. Good Luck, and I hope things get better for you....See MoreUser
