Good Monday all,

I hope everyone had a good weekend. The weather was spectacular here and it was planting weekend at DFIL's farm in Peterborough. We worked our butts off for two days but everything looks gorgeous.

I am on a committee to raise the funds needed to rebuild a bridge that is now used for walkers, runners, and equestrians. The town owns the bridge but has no funds to help and because of liability they decided to close it last year. It cuts off a links to some great riding routes for me.

Anyway, we are holding a yard sale to help raise some of those funds. Anyone here ever hold one? I think Marci has. I need tips and ideas and especially how to come up with pricing that is right. I need all the help I can get!

DH was home this weekend but will be leaving this afternoon for parts unknown again. This last trip had him out six weeks! Too long. I will make the best of this day and it's another beauty.

Happy MONDAY!

Hoping that everyone has a stress-free week ahead.

The weather is cooler now, but we are headed for some very warm weather up here in NJ this week.

Suzanne, good luck with your fundraiser efforts.

Marci, have a great time in Florida. You have earned some down time, girlfried. (BTW, I really hope you can make it next May at the Girlfriend Getaway...would love to have you join us!)

Peg, love the idea of less clutter!

Hi Ya! Hi Ya! Hi Ya!

NHSuzanne - what got planted on the weekend? (I'm nosy.) I'm a couple of hours east of Peterborough - our weather is starting to behave.

Dee - Hi Ya! right back at ya. Get that suntan lotion out. Hopefully you can get out to enjoy it.

This morning for my weigh-in I'm still holding firm on my maintenance. Happy with that.

Been outside since 8:30 working in the garden. Planted peas transplanted some Stevia (first time growing it, natural sweetener), cayenne peppers, weeded. Going back out to shove some more transplants into the ground - tomato, celery, red peppers.

I know, I know it's not fenced. Bambietta (doe) is probably out there watching with amusement waiting for the fall salad bar to open. She's already walked all over my field garden I just planted with corn, bush beans, cucumbers and squash - lovely hoof prints all over the entire area. Probably wondering what happened to the grass. That area I have to get deer netting erected for sure.

Call me a good sport this year - with the crappy weather I lost valuable time doing cages, fencing. Just have to go with the flow.

When I come inside mid-afternoon I'll be resuming my decluttering and housework.

I send my continued hugs and good thoughts to everyone needing or wanting a caring moment.

And for those of you up to a challenge this week - seize the day - Carp Diem!!!!! Get off your butts and get going - repeat this all week.

Today was an awesome day. Bob got up early with me and we went out to pick up our order of Tangelos and on to the Mennonite Market... Did a little shopping and then back home again.. I sorted through some old coffee mugs and will be putting them in the spring yard sale for the Hope Fund at church..I know I will have tons more too. Christmas stuff especially.. I have waaaaay too much in the way of Christmas ornies.. I just keep the ones with sentimental value to them like some hand painted ornies my mom did and little gifts of ornies from a lot of really nice online friends I have met over the years.. Carolyn, It is so amazing when you can get more order in your life by purging what is just not working to the good in your life.... Hanging on to what is doing absolutely nothing but draining you either financially or physically or spiritually is not worth it... Kick it to the curb or give it away or sell it or donate it... but yeah.. don't let it drag you down.. sometimes things can act as an albatross around you neck..and will keep you from doing other things that really are worth while... besides, if you give it away or donate or so... then someone else may garner a really great blessing from it.. and guess what... your blessings will increase too..Just because you remove something from your life that is doing you no good, doesn't mean it doesn't have value.. to someone else it may be just fantastic.. It is turning cold for the next week, so walking will be brisk.. and not really long treks.. just a mile and a half.. and that's it.. toes get cold after that.. lol So ar this year I have walked every day.. and still watching my intake of calories.. so it's all good. Last 15 months: Dec 2003- Went ot Alaska for Christmas w/ my family, first time in 15 years. Wonderful. January 2004 - DH decided he needed to separate and went looking for a place of his own. I received emails, cards and support from my SS sisters and DH & I went to counseling and started some work. May 2004 - My yearly visit with my Kentucky family and MADDIE! Loved it and LOVE her. Spring 2004 - Exchanged a series of emails with DeeMarie and we learned a lot about each other. Very fun and lovely conversations. Beautiful person, she is. June 2004 - Surrendered my dog to keep my husband. Painful but necessary. Again, lots of support from here. Summer 2004 - Spent living in Alaska. Drove up and down the state and had a killer time. Loved it but was happy when I got home in the fall, then I got homesick for Alaska - lol. September 2004 - Went to NY and met Raeanne and her DH- visit too short and had TOO much fun! The people are so fantastic that we're thinking of moving to that coast in a few years! Scoping weather and property now. DH started 2nd year of law school - only 1 more to go after this. I started back to college to finish a degree I started many years ago. All children in school. Dec 2004 - Had DH's family here for holidays. So stressful, DH blew a gasket and almost left again. Back to counseling...and deal making. Lots better now that family's gone. January - Signed up for another college load; continuing to work toward that piece of paper I want. Becoming aware that time flies when you don't have any. Signed up at WW Core Program. Determined to lose weight and be healthy. Still here, after many years and still checking in really regularly. Planning a trip to east coast in March to scout a place to live when we finally move. KYSusie~ Good to hear from you. Keep on truckin' toward wellness. Back to the laundry and paper I'm supposed to be writing! Check in, everyone!

Good morning all, Back from DC and all I can say is WOW! My head is still spinning! We had a very powerful and moving weekend. I know that Rolling Thunder sounds like a bike rally of the normal kind but let me tell you this was not. We left NH on Thursday morning at 9am and headed for Philadelphia. Traffic wasnt bad until we got into Hartford (which is always crazy). I must say that being a motorcycle driver made my being a passenger a bit unnerving! Mark is a great driver but I had no control back there and that was disconcerting at times. Just past Hartford we met up with a huge group of bikes (40+) heading to DC. At first it seemed like a good thing to be behind them but the like to ride the lines and were in the middle lane, 2 astride, with cars and truck trying to pass on the left and right. Not comfortable so we got off the highway to regroup. I donÂt know why they ride the lines like that but itÂs really not fair to people trying to pass. Back on the road we were passed many, many times by bikes rolling in the same directions. It was fun. When we got to Philadelphia around 3pm we were pretty road weary. Our room was an absolute gorgeous sanctuary with a commanding view of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the mighty Delaware river. The room was gorgeously decorated in turquoise and brown and the sheets were soft cotton with down pillowsÂÂÂ.ahhhhhhhh. I loved it! We walked along the Delaware and popped over to Old City to mill around. We did not see any of the sights there because we were tired and hungry. We ate in a nice place along the river and had a great dinner. We headed out early to DC in the morning with a 3 hour drive ahead of us and we wanted to beat the holiday traffic. It was a grueling ride in but we made it. We checked into our hotel (another little sanctuary from the madness). Saturday, we cruised around and did all the monuments. It was amazing. I have never been to DC except in passing. The monuments are truly amazing as is the way the city is laid out; it reminds me a lot of Paris only smaller. All of the monuments were powerful but I have to say that the Korean War Memorial was amazing. I would love to see it at night someday - it was really haunting. Iwo Jima was amazing tooÂthey were all amazing. All the while we were visiting DC the air was filled with the sound of bikes rumbling everywhere like well, Rolling Thunder. It was really neat. I even got my horse fix watching the mounted police on their extra tall horses. Sunday morning - the big day. We got up at 5:00 am to head over to the Pentagon parking lot which was the assembly area for the demonstration. We got over there at 6am and there were already hundreds and hundreds of bikes there! The procession order was on a first come first go basis. Nothing would start moving until noon so we had a long wait in the hot parking lot. We people watched, met new people and tried to keep cool with the bikes just kept coming and coming and coming, and when the Pentagon lot was full more bikes were directed to the other parking lot. It is estimated that about 6,000 participated in the demonstration and that Washington had about a million motorcycles over the weekend. Just before noon the an Air force jet flew over us! At noon the thunder started rolling and that just gave me chills. In about a half an hour we were on our way. We headed up a ramp that was lined with people waving flags, we started across the Memorial Bridge and at the beginning of the bridge there were a bunch of soldiers holding huge flags, once turned onto the bridge there were officers standing at full attention and saluting! We followed Constitution Avenue, around the Mall and down Independence Avenue to the Wall. There we were directed into a field by mounted police! Then we just watched all the thousands of others behind us come in. It was amazing. I have to say that this organization, Rolling Thunder has done a great deal in the last 23 years to bring attention to the plight of our POWÂs, MIAÂs and VetÂs issues. I certainly will never forget this experience. Left DC at 4am and got home late Monday afternoon and THANK GOD I took Tuesday off! I mowed all day long except for a couple of hours to get Sweet Pea out for her first drive. She did really well. Good morning everyone! Patti - I'm not as bad as you are with my sleep. Last night I cheated and took an allergy medication because it usually makes me so drowsy for the first couple of hours. It was enough to get me to sleep. I'm relearning to sleep, somewhat. I have had to take naps now which have been helping. Normally I never nap because of irregular sleeping. We do what we can. What does your doctor say for your insomnia? CONGRATULATIONS on your loss! You go girl! Milkdud - Isn't it wonderful looking at the world 'anew' again with Aubrie? She sounds wonderful. Do what you can with your eating but don't sweat it, just carry on after she goes home. Enjoy your time together. Wish I were a fly on your wall! LOL Wodka the fact you are holding your own on the scale is fantastic with the company. I'm with ya because I experience the same each time we visit the in-laws every month. Drinks, nibble bowls of nuts and chips - very hard. Sometimes I have to 'plan' those visits by bulking up on more veggie/fruits, less carbs a day before and after the visit to allow myself a few extras while there. The key to that was 'planning'. It's much harder when you have a visiting situation that goes on for a couple of weeks. So pat yourself on the back for holding your own! You are doing great! I'll be thinking about you when I working downtown today - I know you will be happy to get outside again! Nhsuzanne - how is your flush going? Mine helped a lot to refocus and remind myself how little fruit and veg I've been eating! I get lazy. Marci glad to see you post! I hope you'll post a pic when the kitchen is done. Good Tuesday all,

We are enjoying some lovely weather here! I am so happy to be home to enjoy these glorious early mornings without having to leave for work.

Peggy, I live in NH and my FIL's farm is in Peterborough, NH. We planted annuals and added perennials to his large flower beds. It's our Father's day gift to him. He loves having us all up there doing this.

I am on a decluttering mission too in hopes of gathering great things to add to the yard sale. I sure hope you all can give me some great ideas!

Hi, I've been thinking about your yard sale.

Will you have a poster of what the yard sale is for with a picture of the bridge? Might help drive prices. And you could put a donation container out (I'd put a bit of lose change in there to start - helps motivate folk).

Ask around if anyone has any items that they might like to donate - if not sold return them.

I'd group areas into like items - childrens toys, clothing, outdoor stuff, indoor stuff, books etc. If you can put "suggested prices" on items. You could also put that at the bottom of your sign - "Make Me A Deal".

Get bags (ask your neighbours for some). If you don't have enough tables, ask to borrow some from friends/neighbours.

ADVERTISE - Local papers - Charity Yard Sale etc. List a few choice items and indicate more. Print out a poster with details - put up in church, grocery store, pet store - anywhere that has public boards that you can post on.

DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE - BIG, with arrows. You don't need to put the house number, just the street. When the sign with arrow on the street put the house number on that one. How many times have you driven by signage with too much info on it that was too small to read?

Anyone else have any ideas?

NHSuzanne - There are two ways of organizing a garage sale.

I find the best way is to group items. You can either group them by price or by categories. If you group them by price then you don't have to individually price items, which is a huge time saver. But it is harder for people to find things. If you group them by category, people will gravitate to the items they are interested in. You can buy garage sale stickers that already have the prices printed on them and then just slap those on quickly. Some clever signs and/or balloons, etc. will attract attention to the sale. I usually put items that sell fast towards the front, because we usually get alot of drive bys. If they see something they like, they will stop. And I don't know about in NH, but around here, no price is set in stone. Every one haggles and I mean even on an item priced at 25 cents. They will want it for a dime or two for 25 cents. So I price things with that in mind and give myself some wiggle room. Our kids used to set up a cooler with drinks and sell cold pop (soda). On a hot day, that will attract people too.
And lastly, remember that what you may consider too junky to even put out at the sale, may be exactly what someone else is looking for. There were so many times I wanted to pitch something, but DH convinced me to put it out, and it sold.

Suzanne - I have done a couple yard sales. I can't be of much help as my logic is that I don't want the stuff I am putting out there, so I price it low with hopes of just getting rid of it. A woman came to my last yard sale looking for replacement items for a family that just lost their house in a fire. Needless to say I told her to pick out anything they could use and gave it to her. So I am not the right person to ask LOL. I like Marci's idea of selling refreshments - maybe some baked goods, if you can find people to donate. If we were closer I would give you half my garage to sell. I love your relationship with your FIL and the nice things you do for one another.

Peggy - You are a good sport! I am tired reading your post - you are really on the go go go.

Marci - it is so good to have you posting again. You always have great ideas to share. Enjoy FL!

Dee - I am still swamped in paperwork from Girlfriends - I can't even think of next year, but I am LOL.

It is Americade Week - motorcycle rally - it is a constant roar. I have to say I enjoy looking at the bikes and it makes for awful good people watching. It is nice to see our sleepy town come to life.

Good Thursday all,

It's hot, hot, hot and humid here. This is a perfect day to work in the cellar gathering stuff for the yard sale. I need to get as much done as I can because I leave for Acadia on the 19th and it's coming up fast.

It's a mellow day here and I'm working or orgainizing my life. I guess that's a lifelong task, lol.

Good Friday all,

The weekend is upon us! We have more very violent storms here yesterday with lots of damage. We are okay but destruction all around us. Crazy.

Today is simply gorgeous and much cooler so I will be on the mower all day!

What is everyone up to for the weekend?
