To those of you who have had WLS

When you have this done can you still drink alcohol? An example would be that we would go out and have 4-5 beers? Or a couple of margaritas. You're honest answer is appreciated.

Hi Josigirl,

Technically, no, you are not supposed to drink alcohol after WLS. I had to sign a paper saying I would not drink alcohol. A couple of reasons.....1) alcholol is empty calories with no real nutrients. When you have WLS pretty much everything you eat should have some nutrients because you can't eat that much. 2) For some, they feel the effects of alcohol much faster after surgery. 3) Some cannot tolerate the carbonation after surgery. The bubbles from the beer isn't well tolerated.

Having said all that, I had surgery January 13th. I have had a few beers since surgery without any problems. I drank them slow. I've had a few sips of a margarita. It will greatly depend on the person. Some will be able to tolerate alcohol, some won't. Hope I answered your questions.

I'm O.K. Quite unhappy because I should be at the museum instead of sitting around the house. Not supposed to be where a lot of people are, was told to stay out of stores, don't go to church stay away from babies and rest homes as long as I have a compromised immune system. There are two jobs not done in my shop that I told people I'd have by May, now I'm wondering May what year. I'm not going to turn on a table saw while my balance isn't too good, that would really be dumb. Leone is working now at the museum and it will hurt to have her tell me about the people she met. Funny how a volunteer job can grab you as much as a paying one. Have a 7 hour chemo set up for next Wednesday hope it is the last long one for a while. Scan says we are making good progress whatever that means. No, I'm not depressed just kind of blue.

Ah, Lavender, you have truly hit upon a not-such-a-coincidence. How lovely that story is. I wish you would, at some time this winter when it is too cold to go out, put that into a story for your nieces, and illustrate it just like the Jo Koch books....the tea, coffee, etc picture books. You just outlined the basic theme of the book/story, and to have it short and to the point, but with the traditional uses of herbs, what a great wintertime project!! And while you're at it, think about putting some lavender around your mailbox too. Or perhaps put some poison ivy around it to punish those who would whack it with a baseball bat. Please remember to put in some nasturtiums somewhere. They like cooler weather, and I cannot grow them in south Alabama. They go to seed almost immediately, unlike the 100 foot rows of blooms I could plant up here in MA. You are a creative little lady, so go for the book!!

Question for those who are very near-sighted & had cataract surgery

I was legally blind with immeasurable eyesight, so about 30 years ago, I had RK done to both eyes and within 7 minutes and 9 little slits in each eye, I was able to see better than 20/20...no glasses and I was thrilled! Being rid of those “pop bottle” eye glasses was the best money I have ever spent! When I developed cataracts, I did go to a specialist who was very familiar with RK eyes to have them removed because the cataracts grew into the slits. They did do a lens exchange in one eye since sight was not 20/20, but it was a simple surgery. If I have a good light, I do not need any glasses to read but keep readers handy. I do not drive at night anymore because I have the starting of MG and Glaucoma and oncoming lights cause a halo effect. But at 78, that is a minor problem .

We just came back from getting our 1st round of shots. :0) I used 50 miles on the locator, came up with 594 locations, but .......I was on the 2nd page before I actually found it available. My neighborhood Walgreens said they had a 16 page waiting list and would not put anyone else on it. THAT sounded like two years to me! After we get the next round of shots I'll go on "Nextdoor" and publish the "Shingrix locator". People just think because one place is out & they heard it on the news it was scarce....it's not worth looking around.
