In the 30+ years I've been online, "dear" is the only standard meaning I've come across (though some individuals mean it facetiously). Of course, that's in places women are more likely to hang out and converse in complete sentences with punctuation. There are some wild and woolly parts of the 'net which I can't vouch for. The exact relationship of an in-law is not specified in the language, beyond the idea that in the law one is now considered to be closely related. In Scandinavian languages, among many others, there is a distinction for grandparents, whether they're father's mother or mother's mother, etc., which is nice so that they're not fighting over who gets to be called "Grandma". We have gender designations for niece and nephew, aunt and uncle, brother and sister, but not cousins. Etc. On the 'net, we don't seek to correct these vagaries of language, just employ them with the fewest keystrokes. :)

The etymology listed above the quote cites Florio, which is an Italian-English dictionary. The 1611 version is available online. It does NOT contain an Italian entry for travertino, but only for tivertino, (written as tiuertino) which it defines (in English) as "a kind of building marble." It also cites Cotgrave, which is a French-English dictionary. The 1611 version (coincidentally) of that is also available online, and it defines the French word Trevertin as meaning "A kind of marble or marble-like stone." IMHO, the change to "travertine" (sometime between 1555 and 1730) may have been influenced by the roots you cite. However, it would be a remarkable coincidence if there were a word in Italian tivertino (written in Florio as tiuertino), a word in French Trevertin, and a word in English "Treuertino" in the 17th century, and then later an entirely new word "travertine" meaning exactly the same thing sprang into the English language based entirely upon your etymology of the root "tra-". Hello, I have been using the machine with only discharging the wash water into a bucket. As Dadoes suggested, I decided to "just keep using...( I can't bear to quote the rest of what he said, lol) Shortly after I initially posted this, My machine stopped making the noise when spinning and there was less gravely stuff noted in the bucket. It seems to be working fine now, I guess? I have rigged up a new set up to discharge the wash water. It works. A lot less complicated than having the plumber install a new draining system. The hose is a high temp hose, at 180*f but this washer can get to 205*f. I don't know if its cooled before discharge or not. You might need to click the new green linked feature to "read more". Okay. note in the dimensions that the fixture height and the minimum height for hanging length are the same, 41.63". So I would interpret that to say from the bottom of the ball at the bottom of the fixture to the top of the shortest length you can make the chain and canopy against the ceiling, is 41.63". So IMO, the maximum hanging length, 114.63", includes the longest chain and the fixture.
