Any of you out there doing Weight Watchers at home. Have any good tips or views, I'd love to hear them. Trying to be good using Weight Watchers at home.

Hi Cathy!

C'mon and join our merry gang on the Daily Support weekly threads. There's a bunch of us there, different ages, different diets hugging and cheering each other on, being there when needed and generally just a merry ol' gang.

I've done WW online and at meetings. I found the sight very informative and encouraging. A similar sight that is absolutely free is called Spark People - check that out too for more inspiration and ideas.

I did not bother with online buddy stuff because I have a close friend doing her own diet thing and we account to each other and yak about diet, healthier lifestyle going forward (lifestyle - never really diet at all).

And I have found this forum the most supportive overall because I feel like part of a family here. The last few years I've been using my weight watchers books and stuff myself at home and have made my own weight loss MS Excel spreadsheets for tracking on a graph (weekly weigh-in), daily point log and a spread sheet of my favourite foods and their respective points.

I've got links to different sites on the web I like. But I'm used to the old points system, not the new one. Either way reporting in at WW online weekly helps you to stay the course.

As many have said - you've got to be serious about it ... and you're the only one that can do it. One of life's important guidelines is to get more bang for your buck ... so why help fatten WW's coffers? What about putting together a group yourself recruited among folks in various agencies or groups in which you participate, e.g. social, political, religious or sport, etc. and agreeing to meet regularly, and to do your weighing yourselves? Dare I say, "religiously"? The benefit? No fees ... or you could collect some and send the money through some agencies which feed hungry kids in various areas of the world, for thousands die there daily due to lack of food - or poor health, with minimal medical service available. 5%? 10%? of the world is worried/obsesses about being overweight ... while over 50% is hungry. If there's a God ... how do you think that S/He may feel about such a situation? Or about so many of the people who claim to follow Him/Her not doing a great deal more than collecting for food hampers for local needy at Christmas (e.g. massive re-arrangments of the world's economy with a view to greater fairness, more people getting a decent diet)? This issue of overweight, and bad diet (with many more of our kids being overweight than in earlier generations, and more suffering from diabetes) can be potentially life-restricting (even -threatening) for many in our society ... ... but it's immediately life-threatening for millions in many parts of the world ... especially in areas where they've been suffering for several successive years of drought recently. Surplus food hurts us - the lack of it kills them. This is a major part of the reason that our world is as sick as it is. I am sorry that I feel the need to rain on your parade, ladies. ole joyful

I've been a member forever, but have not done the program in quite a few years. As far as I know, the eating plan is healthy and provides structure if you need that. Also, some people are helped by knowing they need to weigh in at the meetings so it helps keep one on the straight and narrow. But of course you do not need to fear anyone saying anything if you pick up a few pounds in a week. It happens. I've found the presentations fun, interesting and educational. I remember a man at one meeting saying that since he had lost weight, he was able to give up his diabetes meds. That made an impression on me. It would be fun to do it with friends. If you're not a joiner, maybe it's time to "step outside the box" and try something new with buddies. You could learn a lot. Back when I was a member, WW sold all kinds of measuring spoons, gadgets, magazines and other paraphenalia to help. Unless you see something you feel sure would help you, I'd pass on most of that stuff. That said--I've recently lost about 10 lbs. just by eating mostly what I want but just much less and reducing carbohydrates somewhat (not completely). Also, no cookies, candy or other sugary treats, and of course no sodas at all. I'm also walking every day. Whatever you decide, best wishes for success.

Hey all...I just signed up for WW's on line. I have been doing WW's off and on for a long time. I just let things get out of hand and then go back to WWs. I signed up up -online and may go to meetings too .....that's yet to be decided.

I really believe that WW's is the one proven weight loss program that works forever. None better.

cathy, I should have said that WW's really works for me and the best tips I find are on the boards at WW's. My best tip though is. always make the most of your points. 3 points for a piece of good meat is way better than 3 points wasted on something that is just for volume. I make all my points quality points....
