Sweets headache after low-carbing?

Posted by eklektos (My Page) on

I'm on day 16 of Atkins, and up until today I've avoided all sweets, even artificial sweeteners. I know my taste buds have adjusted because today I decided to try, with my little bit of post day-14 freedom, a small "dessert." It was just 2 tbs of cream cheese with 1 tsp of granular Splenda added.

It tasted SO sweet, though, that I really couldn't eat it. And almost immediately after tasting it, I got a sharp headache.

Has anyone here ever heard of such a reaction? Or know why this happened?

Thanks!

Yes, I've heard there are some people that have that reaction to Splenda, as well as other artificial sweeteners. Personally, I don't use the stuff. I think all those artificial sweeteners taste awful.

It must taste different to other people because I see people happily guzzling diet soft drinks with great gusto. They must taste something completely different than what I do.
