Did anyone see Oprah Friday?

Doctor was on the show saying how we should change our ways. They showed an autopsy on a man to show how fat looks in the body - not a pretty picture but it was fascinating and now I know what's around my heart and belly. Oh dear. They also showed a smoker's lung compared to a regular one, gallstones, a fibroid tumor, 2 arteries one healthy and one not (the doctor had to hunt for a month for a healthy one because everyone usually has plaque in theirs). It was a fascinating show and hopefully I can record the rerun and keep that fat in mind when the chocolate monster calls me...Kathy

Hi Kathy,
No, I didn't see it, but recently watched a show where a lady had her stomach stapled and they showed those big globs of yellowish fat!! Hasn't left my mind. What an eye opener.

There is a new quit smoking commercial in the UK being aired. It shows surgically gloved hands handling a rubber tube (mimicking an artery)- they are squeezing out gooey fat - yellowish looking and like chuncky lard - really disgusting. Makes ya think.

I will keep an eye out for the oprah rerun when it is shown here.

I am not a big Oprah fan either and I do agree it's annoying that she is on the cover of her magazine EVERY single month...BUT...Nobody's perfect. Every single human has good and bad qualities. Same goes with Oprah, although I would say her good qualities probably far outweigh her bad qualities. I think she genuinely cares about making the world a better place and has done ALOT of good with her time and money, probably more than most people, so I admire her for that. I think she tries to inspire others to give back and that is main reason she talks about how she gives, she has certainly received enough kudos to last a lifetime. Even though we all know you should give just for the sake of giving, everyone likes a pat on the back and a "job well done" sometimes, even Oprah. Yes, she can be full of herself, but it would probably be a little hard not to be a little full of yourself with her life. All in all, I truly believe Oprah is a good person who tries her best to better the world the best way she knows how and I respect anyone who does that. I also think it is wonderful that people try to improve their lives or themselves in any way that works for them, including this class. I say whatever works for you...go for it!

I watched/listened. It made me sick. I don't see how he can be normal with all that happened at the hands of his father and SM. His birth mother was a real loser and dumped him with the father and SM when he was little and was never heard from again. I didn't see the first part which I guess explained how old he was when it started and when it ended. Did you see that, Joann?

I was sitting in a waiting room and saw most of the show. It was very interesting. One item that I did object to was the emphasis on preparing every high school student for college. One school in particular - the Aspire public school - has as it's goal that every graduate will attend college. While that is a noble ideal college is certainly not for everyone. I've seen first hand the unfair pressure that can be put on a child who simply isn't interested, qualified or destined for a college degree. I believe that one of the problems with our school system is the fact that many of the non-academic programs have been dropped. Instead of stating that college is the goal for every student I think schools should prepare students for a future that's suited to their particular talents and interests and that could be technical training, trade school, apprentice programs, military careers etc. It was wonderful to see how enthused Bill Gates is about his educational initiatives and his willingness to utilize his fortune to achieve that goal.

Oprah has given away a lot of money and done many things for others. I will remember setting my VCR for 4 pm as long as I live. She started out like Jerry Springer with lesbian nuns on (really.) The kind of stuff that is none of our business and I don't believe nuns would come forward and wish they wouldn't. But it got attention which she needed to compete with Phil Donahue. Then she had a revelation and cleaned up her act. She is a wonderful actress. A natural in great movies that tell real stories. Rosie is not a nice person in my opinion though she had that reputation for a while when she had her own show. Queen of nice. We all have seen her other side and I remember when she left The View she had a blog online and she looked skaggy and ranted everyday to people who agreed with her. Maybe she was off her medication but I doubt I will ever watch her again. She has never revealed why she acted so badly and I don't care. Oprah has a lot of thinking to do. I don't know what shows she could do that would appeal to me. I guess I have seen it all at this age. And with 8 commercials at a time (I thought that was illegal) then I fold. With all of the repeats and commercials it sounds like she is stalling and building money to finance her show in the future. Everybody is replaceable and I will probably let her go and watch the history shows as those are teaching me something.

Kathy, My daughter was home from work and happened to see that program.....gross but interesting and informative.

I've been told that the fat of a human looks just like chicken fat.......not a pretty sight when there's an abundance.

Yes it was globs of yellowish fat - oh my. Shame no one saw the show but I am going to watch for it in the reruns. Kathy

I saw it. Raeanne from SS alerted me and I set the Ti-Vo. I Ti-Vo'd it and my teens are going to watch it with me---they missed the first showing. The smokers lungs were most interesting and the uterine fibroids were an eye opener.

I didn't think it was gross. It was presented in a very factual way. The doc was a great speaker and did a nice job with the video and disection presentations.

I watched it and was also impressed. I thought it was handled very well, and I enjoyed his talk. I made my husband watch it. He showed pictures of what a weight gain can do to you spine, and he talked about so many things we hear about. But at least twice he said that men may worry about a heart attack or stroke, but excessive weight can make them impotent. He said that that fact had more effect than any other statistics. Interesting!
I really enjoyed the show.
