| This is a delicious bar recipe that my mother always makes during a family getogether. It's like a buttertart square! Try it, you won't be disappointed. It comes from her 1952 cookbook that she got when she bought her first set of pots and pans.
Washington Nut Bars 1 cup cake flour
Rub together well, flour, sifted brown sugar, and the shortening. Pat into 8x8-inch pan and bake in moderate oven 350 F for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cover with following mixture: Beat eggs, add sugar, corn syrup, melted butter, flavouring and nuts. Bake at 350 F for 25 minutes. Makes 32 (1x2-inch) bars. NOTE: When using all-purpose flour, remove 2 tablespoons of flour from every cup called for in the recipe and add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch |
