Sounds delicious! There must be a few different versions of this cake by the same name. The one I had was a yellow cake with vanilla pudding and pineapple. It was served at a baby shower luncheon I attended and I asked the hostess for the recipe.

Better Than Sex Cake

Source: Dear SOS: Dessert Recipe Requests to the Los Angeles Times by Rose Dosti (former food editor of the Times).

* 1 (18.5 ounce) package yellow cake mix
* 1 (20-oz.) can crushed pineapple
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 (6-oz.) package vanilla pudding mix
* 1 cup whipping cream, whipped and sweetened
* Flake coconut, lightly toasted

Prepare cake in 13 x 9-inch baking pan and bake according to package directions.

Combine crushed pineapple and sugar in saucepan and bring to a boil. Cool slightly.

When baked cake has cooled, poke holes in it with a fork. Pour pineapple mixture over it.

Prepare pudding mix according to package directions. Cool. Spread prepared pudding over top of cake. Chill.

Just before serving, cover with sweetened whipped cream and sprinkle with coconut. If desired, garnish with pineapple slices.

Makes 12 to 16 servings.

A woman at works makes the yellow cake version every once in a while and I could never get the exact recipe from her. Many thanks for posting both! I'm going to make the chocolate one for my husband and see what he thinks - LOL!!

Wasn't the former name for this cake "The next best thing to Robert Redford?" I realize my friends and I used to make this cake 30 years or so ago so I can see why they may have renamed it. Time marches on.
