In your opinion, which of these makes the best cake mixes: Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, or Duncan Hines?

It's been a while but as I recall, Duncan Hines.

Way back "When"....I used to use cake mixes. At that time I preferred the Duncan Hines brand because I thought it was not as cloyingly sweet as the other brands. In combination with the icing, most were just too sweet for mine and my family's tastes. Now I am not so pressed for time anymore so I prefer to make my cakes "from scratch", and even then I reduce the sugar by a quarter cup. Havn't used a cake mix in years, so don't know what they are like now.

Am watching this thread with interest to see what others think, and if cake mixes have improved any.

Well, it seems there is a unanimous choice. Thank you all.

One vote, here, for Duncan Hines!!
Their cream cheese icing is great, as well.

I already voted for Duncan Hines, but I wanted to share another vote from someone not here. A couple of years ago I took a cake decorating class from the owner of a candy/cake making store. She made the cakes there herself; the store is like a mini Disneyland for candy and cake makers. Anyway, she recommend Duncan Hines mixes (if you are going to use a mix).

I took one of the cakes to work one day and someone said she always uses Duncan Hines because it is her favorite.... and come to think of it I think she said it was her mother's favorite too.

So there are 3 additional votes for Duncan Hines!

Somewhere I read that if you add 2T of mayo to a mix, it will taste like homemade-anyone else ever heard that??

I think the Cake Mix Doctor suggested that. If not, I heard it somewhere.

I have been making a lot of The Cake Doctors recipes, using just the store brand cake mixes, they have all been hits. The less expensive store brands do not have the pudding or anything extra in them, since the recipes call for lots of extras most of the time, these work out great.
Otherwise, I guess Duncan Hines, or Betty Crocker. Have to admit this too, whatever is on sale works for us.
