Hi, any body have a recipe for butter cake like you get in the bakery, all gooey and sweet? I have been looking for a while some copycats but nothing good yet. Any Ideas?

There's a gooey butter cake I grew up with. Every St. Louis bakery seemed to have a version. There's a yeast version made in an Italian bakery on the Hill there. I'll try to find that one, too.
GOOEY BUTTER CAKE
One 18 1/2 oz pkg cake mix, without pudding (I use yelloe)
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 lb box powdered sugar, divided

In a large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, margarine & egg. Press mixture into a 9x13" greased baking dish.
In another mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, eggs & powdered sugar; reserve 1/4 cup powdered sugar. Spread cream cheese mixture over cake mixture.
Bake in a preheated 350° for 40 minutes. Sprinkle remaining powdered sugar on top.~~

Here's another St. Louis Bakery's version of the cake if you don't want to use a cake mix.

Here is the yeast version which I'm sure is very good. The kind I had growing up wasn't one with yeast. I've wanted to try this version but haven't gotten around to it.

The one with the cake mix was the one that was so popular when we lived in the St. Louis area. It really is a good one.

Funniest thing-usually if you post the same thing twice, it is rejected. Sorry 'bout this.
