How about coconut?

Do you think it would work to use licorice whip? I've seen it in red, so maybe you could cut the pieces about 1/4" - 1/2" longer than needed, hold the piece of whip by tweezers to dip most of it in white candy melts, then strategically stick the uncoated end of the whip into the cannonball?
