LOOKING for: Red sauce with sliced bananas

Posted by alanis (My Page) on

I had this red sauce/syrup with sliced bananas at a Chinese restaurant. I don't know what it's called. It tasted like either strawberry or cherry and the banana was coated in it and there was some in the pan but wasn't full of the sauce/syrup.

Anyone know what this recipe is?

Thanks for your help

If it is what I am thinking of, it is similar to the glaze put in strawberry pies.
Boil til thickened:
1 1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 T. cornstarch
Add a box of strawberry jello. For a thinner glaze I would probably not add as much cornstarch.
Or they have bags of strawberry glaze at the supermarket.

I just buy strawberry glaze at Meijer. That is probably what you had at the Chinese place. Handy to have on the shelf. They even make a sugar free one.

Well, I made the strawberry glaze, sliced the bananas and covered them with the glaze and then refridgerated it.
I had extra sauce so I put in another dish.

Well, the bananas and the glaze were so thick that I could pick up a square.

So I made a jiffy cake mix and then when it was cool, I put the square on top. Remember that extra sauce? Well it was very thick so I warmed it and added a bit of water to thin. Then I used this on top as a topping after it had cooled. My husband loved it!! I thought it was very good too. Was like strawberry shortcake only with bananas.
