LOOKING for: help with making teapot cake in advance

Posted by emmie9999 (My Page) on

Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum, but I know of it from posting on several other boards around the site. I am hoping someone here may be able to help me, or point me in the right direction.

I am planning to make a cake for my MIL's upcoming birthday. It is a teapot cake, and consists of using pound cake mix baked in bowls, then frosted to look like a teapot. I have included a link below to one site that has directions. I will most likely go with a white and green scheme, since my MIL has a collection of Beleek teapots.

I have made this before, but due to the size of the party, this time I must make three. Therefore, I must start in advance! I am wondering if anyone here can give me advice, or hints, or links. How far in advance can I bake the cakes? Can I freeze them? How long would they take to thaw if I did that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Emmie

You can freeze pound cake easily, if well wrapped then decorate when thawed. If they're well-wrapped so no air could get to them you could freeze a month or two ahead. I'd thaw them the morning before I wanted to serve then decorate.

Thank you, Ginger! I could bake them today, and wrap them in plastic wrap, then tin foil, and then put them in the freezer. Maybe a layer of wax paper first?

I will be serving these on a Saturday evening. Could I do this:
*Place in fridge Friday morning to thaw.
*Finish thawing on Friday evening
*Assemble and frost on Friday night; refrigerate
*Decorate (trims, flowers, decorative frostings, etc) on Saturday AM; refrigerate/transport

How does that sound for a timeline? If I should do anything differently, please let me know.

Thanks again,
Mary Ellen

That's what I'd do. Good luck. I bet they'll be pretty.
