Powder room paint color help puhleeeze

Am I nutty for wanting to paint this 5' x 6' powder room in a dark green like Farrow and Ball 'studio green' or 'green smoke'? Our adjoining foyer is Decatur Buff thanks to all of your suggestions. The ceiling of the powder room is Wilmington Tan because we had it on hand and the preexisting floor marble is cream. Or we could use another dark color, or wallpaper, or....?

I don't think I would like the green with the countertop, but I'm not sure what color I picture. Since the cabinets and countertop are dark, I'm thinking I would stick with a lighter, but warm color. Laurie

This is what is great about these forums-all different opinions! I think the green would look terrific with the countertop, but I am not sure about it with the floor. Still, I would try it anyway. It is just paint and it's a small room, so you can always repaint without too much trouble if you hate it. If you don't try it, you will always wonder...

| Studio Green look just a tad away from Black. Sure, with the right accessories and lighting you could pull it off with some effort. Do you have an inspiration pic that has swayed you to this direction? | You are not nutty IMO! Our powder room is tiny and painted blue that is almost black (EK's Dean's Dream). Our guests love it! "Stunning!" is what most of them say when they see it for the first time! The granite is very dark silvery grey and black with blue "jewels". I know it's not green but I hope it helps.

sis3 - your bath is gorgeous! begoniagirl - I agree that a small powder room will be quite dramatic in a dark green. I love the idea. I've always thought you should be a little more daring in the PR. I also think the tan ceiling with green walls would look good. Try a sample board next to your counter tops and see what you think. I'm thinking it will look good. :)

I agree...a powder room is a great place to go a little wild. I am about to paint mine dark blue. I think a near-black on the walls will make that counter glow. Wow! If it were me, I'd probably go with blue, because I like blue and orange together, which in a very simplified way is what you'd have there. But deep green would be nice too. You do know about F&B colors, right? You have to get sample pots and play with them. The cards just don't really convey the end look, much less the small color chips in the brochure. Please post pics when you're done!

Thanks everyone for your welcome input. No, I have no inspiration photo, dilly dally, a dangerous thing I guess. Sis3, your room is beautiful. And, amysrq, I have called F&B in LA and spoke to them about sending some sample pots down to the OC, which is where we are. I still want to look at some wallpaper when time permits. I'll post photos if and when we ever finish these projects....they just drag on and on and on....but I know most folks have the same story. Patience, patience, patience....

Personally, I would prefer a lighter color w/ the dark countertops & cabinets. But I am all about doing what you like!! I would be afraid it would make the room appear smaller. It is only paint, you can do over if you don't like it.

Thank you for the kind words holleygarden and begoniagirl, I am glad you like our powder room. I have to say, and I have just been in there to check this out, that the very dark walls do actually recede. In other words the walls almost disappear and it is the pictures and other details that are spotlighted. The room looked smaller when it was sporting its white primer coat! This may also be due to the lighting - there are tiny black spotlights (almost invisible) aimed on the features I wanted to highlight. It is quite dramatic and draws attention away from the proximity of the walls !

Thanks once again for all the input. Deborahnj, your red powder room is delicious in every way, the color, granite, towels, artwork. And Jejvtr, thanks for all the time you put in with color suggestions. Two days ago I found the perfect WALLPAPER for this room and ordered it. It is a dark green/grey traditional damask style, just what I wanted. I've never ever made the mistakes in choosing wallpaper that I have with paint colors. If you notice, most wallpaper books don't use nasty color tones for their background colors so to me it's easier to find a great red, blue, green, yellow, etc. I have used two paint colors recommended by the talents on this forum, Decatur Buff in the living room and Greenfield Pumpkin in the master bath. We are seeing a dim light at the end of our remodeling tunnel and then the cleanup begins. After that I plan to post some photos. A big happy 2010 to everyone here!
