Ask yourself how you want to feel when you're in this room. Airy and open? Comfy and cozy? Do you prefer rustic or contemporary? Beach or mountain?

If you can answer each of those, you'll know which way to go, I think.

What direction does the room face? What is the climate where you are?

The ceiling is beautiful. I wouldnt paint it. I dont think I would stain it dark either. How about just a clear sealer or a very light stain, and then still use your dark floors.

I would paint the ceiling white, which is not easy to do with pine since you have to put at least two coats of BIN on it first, since it's a ceiling I'd do three coats, then paint. The dark floor is gorgeous. And I'd paint the walls a color with some depth in order to really define the windows and make them look like paintings. I do love that white clapboard/beadboard type of ceiling, though.

I'd do a white wash on the ceiling and a medium brown on the floor. I think the very dark stain is too trendy and harder to maintain vs. something lighter.

The ceiling could look appropriate stained transparent white or a deeper toned stain. Seems as though there is plenty of light in the room. The decision maybe be determined by what type of furnishings you plan to place in the room.

What maybe you should reconsider is your selection of bamboo flooring. Looks as though you have spent a lot to do this addition. Also looks as though you are up north, based on your picture. Sorry but I don't think bamboo floors contribute to increasing the value of a home in a northern address. Oak or maple seem more appropriate.

I'd paint the ceiling white. I don't like the idea of white washing or staining it white. I also love the floor colours posted above. I used to love dark floors, but for the last 2 weeks we've been in a condo with dark wood floors and they are driving me nuts. They show every footprint, cat hair and drop of dust.

I LOVE the photos beverly posted above, and agree that a light whitewash or stain with a medium maple or light hickory floor would be lovely. The ceiling looks like it was meant to be stained, as I think those knots will bleed through any paint job eventually,

I wouldn't use dark floors. They are impossible to keep looking clean. I had darker wood (not as dark as your sample) a and it was a nightmare. I'd go with a medium or lighter floor and whitewash the ceiling. Your beam is already painted I think? So, not sure about a true stain.

This is just my opinion. It's a beautiful room and will look lovely with whatever you choose.
