With your color scheme I'm thinking that something very tailored might work well.
Something geometric or a trellis type design, mounted on a board and hung above and outside your window mouldings to cover some of the surrounding wall and cover the shades when they're drawn up could work nicely.

This treatment, done in 3 parts to cover each angle of the bay, and done with less depth so as not to cover too much of your window, is a soft alternative.

Doing something like just the topper on the following, using a board and padding it out to make a padded cornice board would also be very pretty over your cellular shades.

I am wondering if tailored is the way to go as opposed to a standard two tiered ruffled valance. My house is traditional. I tend to have flowery patterns or stripes on the windows. I have searched on Houzz, but still haven't decided. Are two tiered valances "out"? Any other suggestions?

Found a two tiered gathered valance on a bay window on Houzz. Only one in all the thousands of pictures on Houzz. Which would indicate to me anyway that the look isn't really high on the decorators list of what is "now". Honestly, I don't like it much.

Where you will find lots of these are on the sites like CountryCurtains.

I'd suggest looking at country curtains...they have a nice selection of valances that are more traditional. I see from the pics that you have more than just the bay window to consider. So you might want to match or coordinate the treatments in the entire space....

Thanks for the pictures. I am really not sure what I want. I would like to tie the kitchen in to the great room. My dilemma is that my kitchen has white cabinets with black titanium granite and the great room has brown leather couches so I don't think I can go with a black and white valance in the kitchen since it is open to the great room.

I think you'll be fine if you get black and white and brown in the fabric...looks like there's some brown in your lovely granite as well.

Or you can use the window treatment as an opportunity to add some more color to the rooms....black and brown and white are so neutral that almost any color will go...could be green, red, gold, blue...whatever strikes your fancy.

I think I do want some other colors in my room. I have had green in my kitchen in the past, which I still like, so maybe I will incorporate a few colors along with the green.

From the responses, I feel that the ruffled valance is pretty much "out" which is fine since I don't love that anyway. It was just suggested by a woman who sews so I thought I'd get your opinions here. It looks like the tailored valance- maybe with a pleat- is the way to go. Now I have to find fabric....
