You might talk to a custom cabinet maker to see how they do it, but you are looking at a professional finish in those cabinets...most likely sprayed on and then a hand applied glaze on top. Just like painting a car, a pro's experience counts.

I do admire people who can transform their cabinets and save a bundle. But that DIYer's cabinets look grungy and I'd always want to scrub them.
