how to furnish a bowling alley

Actually, its a living room. the room I dislike the most because of its odd dimensions: 25ft x 12.5 ft.

Its an odd setup that I can think of a way that it would be user friendly.

As a background, our family consists of 2 adults and 2 kids.

In this living room, well be putting a 55-60in TV. I also had our computer desk in the living room (in corner next to slider--see uploaded).

there is 6x6in tile in front of the fireplace and slider (dimensions in the uploaded drawing as well)

Neither my wife nor I are great at visualizing things, so we really would appreciate any help.

I have made a semi accurate structural drawing of the living room. I included dimensions. Hopefully this helps not hurt!

Anyway, help would be appreciated!

My informal LR is 14' x 27' and the only way to arrange the furniture is in 2 separate conversation areas. There is enough space in the middle for an antique round DR table that I decorate 'a la Martha Stewart' or use as a desk, for games, jigsaw puzzles, or crafts. Very useful.

Decide on the best place for the TV, arrange furniture the best way to view, then use the other end for computer or games table, or small conversation area.

To make it easier on your back, draw the room to scale, also draw furniture to scale and cut out. Move furniture around on paper til you find an arrangement that works.

A room like this will typically be divided into 2 separate functional areas....like a conversational cluster around the fireplace and a supplementary one.

You can think about getting a backless sofa (which is really like a bed) in the middle to link the 2 separate seating areas and is great for TV viewing. It also allows people to sit on either side to be part of the different conversational clusters.

But most important is to first decide what functions you want in the room...conversation, tv viewing, play space, office space, casual dining, card playing...the functions you want the room to perform will determine the best furniture and layout for the room.

I totally understand your problem, because we have the same living room. It's 25x14. I think the idea of putting in 2 conversation areas is a good possibility. But also, as Annie said, it really depends on how you use the space. For us, 2 conversation areas would have been wasted, as it's only the 2 of us for most of the time. And when we have guests, we don't usually have enough for people to break off into different "conversation groups." So we did a large sectional, with a couple of chairs. It works better for us.

We actually have ot sort of split in half like you suggest. Tv and sectional on one side and computer and file cabinet on the other. .
