Christmas tree decor for christmas / fall/ spring etc

hello
I love to decorate my thin pencil tree for other things besides christmas. I would love it to look like a charlie brown tree. that is the best way to describe it. Even when my husband and I go looking for our fresh Christmas tree. we cannot find what I am looking for. Which is a tree that you can see thru. Does anyone know what I mean. Or what it's called.
I need help on how to do it with a faux tree and how to look for a real tree like it.
Should I just add less branches when putting the tree together? But then do I gather all the branches together?
OMG I am so confused
Sharon
Thanks for your help
