One of the changes we made in the standard design of our new build house was to forgoing a coat closet as you walk into the house from the garage. Instead, I wanted what I'm calling my 'mud nook' as it really doesn't qualify as a room. After almost 6 months in our house, my brother is finally getting around to building it. The bottom is a crate with sliding door for our dog. The wide trim will have hooks for our coats and above that will be 4 cubbies with baskets. Plan to have a cushion made for the top of the bench.
