Those are vertical blinds.

Tough to say what a good alternative would be unless you post a photo of the area around the French doors.

Aren't those just vertical blinds? The track looks like ours.

Hard to make suggestions with such zoomed in photos and without photos of the whole area.

Thanks for your help, I was not looking for specific design ideas per se but what people were doing to reduce heat loss in french doors now that it's no longer 1977 (not that these interesting blinds would have done much to insulate). Of course, specific suggestions are also welcome so I will try to get a few photos of the room, thanks.

I mean, we can't even see the style of blinds much, since the pics are so close up. If you don't want design ideas, then just a better picture that shows more of the blinds would be helpful to just identify the style of blinds. It's like you're asking us to identify a dog breed from a close up picture of it's nose.

You're original post eludes to wanting design ideas for your doors...so if you want suggestions, again, pics of your doors are in order. Otherwise you won't get suggestions that would actually work with your doors and layout.

I have vertical blinds in my TV room, which is on the northeast corner of my house....built in 1965. I find with the vertical blinds clossd, they do provide insulation on the windows. We love them, even though some people don't. They let in light, easy to see out of when open, and close out the light and privacy when you close them. I HAVE seen people use grommet curtains/drapes on french doors...they are easy to open and close. I have seen simple roller shades on french doors also. I think it depends on what you want and how your house is furnished.
