SW Duration Matte or Satin?

I am buying paint tonight from SW. We've narrowed it down to Duration matte or satin.

I have a fear of "shiny," but this will be a high-traffic area-- it's the basement, which is our family room.

I don't expect the kids to write on the walls, but most likely there will be handprints in the stairway.

Which would you pick? Likely we will not want to repaint ANY time soon. It's not "just paint." Painting is a huge hassle and we are getting pros to do it.

I had duration matte in a previous kitchen and it held up great next to the stove. No back splash on either side of stove, only right above the range. I prefer very low sheen and durability on most walls in bedrooms and living areas.

Anele, we did our walls in SW emerald in satin, and it is a great finish. Good luck with the painting!

Marti8a, seems that the matte has a sheen between flat and eggshell. Some say the satin has just too much sheen. I am guessing this is how it is so durable? Duration, in general, seems (from what I've read in several reviews) that even the matte holds up to abuse, it looks good, but feels gritty to the touch. We got the matte. Painters scheduled for Monday so I will report back.

According to a SW chart I found when having the same ?'s:
Duration Matte 2-7 units
Satin 15-20 at 85degree
Semi 35-45

SuperPaint
Flat 0-5
Satin 10-20

Since you're spending $$ to have it painted, I'd suggest you pick up a can of the matte and try it on the wall before the painters arrive. What you see in your home may be totally different than the reviews you've read.
I have only one room done in matte, a large guest bath, and it's my least favorite. Of course it was the most difficult room to paint so I'm in no rush to redo it!

I have Duration matte in my MBR and in my foyer and stairway. I like the finish; it's not super flat but not as shiny as satin.
