would you buy this from CL?

I have foound this glass and brass looking coffee table on DD's CL and wondered what you all think of it. It is kind of similar to the one I had 20+ years ago and now wish I had it back. I emailed for thickness of glass and what the base is made of. I do not know how to attach the picture but if you would be so kind as to check out Nebraska craigslist city is Lincoln and it was listed on the 19th. They are asking $30. I need to take lessons on how to be better at the computer. Thanks to anyone who would help.

| I think it has good bones, I personally do not care for the gold/brass looking base. But that could be easily changed I would suspect. And for $30 you could end up with something really decent looking.

I think the lines of the table are very elegant, and overall, the table is very classic. I'd grab it as long as the brass is not pitted.

Thank you all.....it being brass does not bother me as I am "older than dirt". When I hear back from them with answers to my questions my DD works in that part of town and said she could check it out for me. I don't do well with anything that I am not familiar with so when we join our DD's family for Thanksgiving dinner I will see if she can help me figure out how to get CL over to Gardenweb. She is a patient "teacher" and could give me written instructions. She knows how challenged I am. I have messed up here and now cannot find how to check my spelling......

I just heard back about the table. She said the glass may be 1 c. thick, she had not measured it and a magnet does stick to the frame. I don't have a clue if my table was brass but it was pretty heavy and I think my glass top must have been at least 3/4 inch thick. Don't know what to think about it now and would rather not send my daughter on a wild goose chase in case the base finish is cheap looking. She gave a phone # now so I can call about it. Thoughts anyone?

| well again, the base finish would be the least of my concerns, as that would be easy to change up. As long as it's sturdy and the glass is not chipped etc. then you would be able to refinish the base and make it a much more modern looking table. $30 for a decent piece of furniture would be worth a trip and a look see. GO GET IT :) |

I have the exact table that I inherited when my MIL passed away a few years ago.She always bought nice things, and personally I like the brass. I have a rug that I'm waiting on, purchased on a recent trip to Turkey. It will go underneath the table and I'm so glad I have the glass top! I also have the lamp table. |

| iris I think the table you have has hoof feet, right? Yours looks like the one I originally had but this one does not appear to have the same. This is probably getting tiresome but I told my sister once that it takes me longer to buy a pair of shoes than it does for her to buy a house! |

| I like it, and I agree that $30 is a very nice price! Here's a similar table advertised on my local Craig's List for $75. |

| I like it. I was considering a similar one on my local CL for $50 recently and kicked myself for not calling before someone else got it. If you ask where they bought it or who the manufacturer is, you can get some idea of the quality (and whether the glass will be cheap or thick). From the picture, the glass looks reasonably thick; if I had to guess, I'd say a half inch thick, not as thick as your old table, but I don't know. Maybe you could ask her for the measurements, including the thickness of the table when and if you call. |

Not yet, am still thinking. I live 7 hours away so would have to have DD check it out for me and am not sure if our opinions would be the same. We plan to be there for Thanksgiving so I could go see it for myself if it is still available.

| i too have a similar table with brushed on black over steel look. It is very pretty and I get compliments often. For 30.00 its a good deal too. I am 'older as dirt' as well but i AM NOT A BRASS PERSON. iF YOU LOVE IT, GO FOR IT. ITS PRETTY, ESPECIALLY THE LINES OF THE metal underneath are very 'cool' looking, |
