bedding fiber help

we have a large dog who thinks he's a lap dog and sleeps in bed with us most nights. he's got LONG white hair, so i avoid anything dark in our house. i've also avoided light bedding because if he jumps up on the bed with a little cut on his foot or after going outside on a rainy morning...

so i've had a black and white toile quilt for the past several years. it's got little spots on it here and there, but you can't really notice them becuase of all the pattern, so it's done its job. however, i would LOVE to be able to use crisp solid white bedding. i've had some encouragement from friends of the family who swear as long as it's solid white, you can get almost any stain out of it.

i've found some 100% cotton as well as some cotton-poly blend bedspreads i like and i'm wondering if anyone has strong feelings about the best fabric for us?

PS: the dog is staying - kicking him out of bed isn't an option. :)
