if the whole house is the same color, it'll vanish. esp. in winter.

I guess I was concerned if we stain it white, then it'll over power the house and seem off balance since it's so much bigger than the house...

Here's white. It does overpower the house, IMO.

Here's brown. Landscaping will help it fit in.

Awmo3- thank you!!!!!! I'm wondering if we just white stain the big posts and the rise on the stairs- that might be nice, give it some interest but not overpowering. Yes- we need landscaping!:)

That's not bad! Even if you didn't stain the risers (easier maintenance if you don't), it looks fine. The columns look like columns, and the railing looks apiece with the deck.
