Since you will have black doors and windows on the interior I think walnut wood grain would be a nice change for the entry door to make it "special". Also since you will have natural oiled oak floors and walnut accents and cedar ceiling, it seems that the wood grain would be nice. I like the black hardware if you go with wood grain. If you go with black paint then I would go with the nickel hardware. Just an opinion :-)

Opinions are exactly what I want, thanks! I think I will price out the walnut- ouch. It's already an expensive door. :-/ The nice thing about the wood grain is that i will still have the wood represented in the mix if it turns out we don't have enough spare wood for the ceiling.

I would go for wood grain to complement it with oak floors. It will also enhance the "rustic" effect for home's interior.

What are your windows? I prefer continuity / integrity of materials, especially when visible through windows, so I would vote black interior if you are set on black exterior. That said, I have one door that is walnut veneer and clad with cedar on one side to blend in seamlessly with a cedar clad wall. (Not installed yet.) In that case the continuity of the wall overrides the integrity of the door. Unless you have a reason to change the material from one side to the other, I would keep it the same.

Thanks maxmillion! I completely hear you about the door continuity. My original plan was to have all doors be black inside and out, but I sort of started to wonder if the entry should stand out in some way. However I think we may end up going with black on the inside for budgetary reasons anyway. Walnut isn't cheap! At least then if I have the cedar ceiling I don't need to worry about it being too many competing woodgrains.

You could do interior walnut doors and a black entry door. Doors have been my biggest splurge so far, for sure!
