Paint Colors for Sunroom

Greetings! We are finishing a 3-season room and ready to select paint colors for the beadboard ceiling, trim, kneewall, and drywall. The room is currently primed (see photo).

I wanted to keep the room all white, then bring in color with furnishings & accessories. However, now we're thinking we might want a little color on the drywall area (there's not a lot of wall space). Opinions?

For the ceiling/trim/kneewall, can anyone recommend a white paint color? I have Sherwin Williams paint purchased in their stock SW 7006 Extra White color (too bright) and will have it tinted. I'm looking for a not-too-bright white, and there are too many whites to choose from! :) I like SW 7012 Creamy and SW 7011 Natural Choice on the chips. Does anyone have a beadboard ceiling white they like?

I wanted to post a follow-up, as we are 99% done with our sunroom! We painted the beadboard ceiling SW Pearly White & love it! It is a warm, off white.

For the walls, we tried about 6 different paint colors and kept striking out with the warm whites. Sherwin Williams(SW) Steamed Milk (too yellow), SW Alabaster(too light), SW Natural Choice (too yellow), SW Egris (too rosy), and a few others. Lovely colors, but they just weren't working.

Then in desperation due to time running out, I switched gears and got a sample of a cool white to try on the walls. SW Origami was perfect! Just what we wanted - a white that was just different enough from the trim to show a little contrast. No undertones.

Thanks for the input, GW! Here's a photo of the room. We love the new space, and can't wait to decorate it. :)

What a beautiful room! Can you give us some info regarding your climate and whether you're looking for a cool feeling room or a warm feeling room?

bestyears - Thank you! We are excited about the room. We live in the Midwest and hope to use the room 9-10 months/yr. There will be no a/c, but we'll have 2 ceiling fans (white). The baseboard heater will be the only heat source (and it's already putting out a decent amount of heat). The room is 12 ft x 20 ft.

We're looking for a warm feeling room. Our style is "modern cottage/eclectic," if there is such a thing. :) We will have an "onion" light fixture on the brick wall from the kitchen, and 3 bronze jelly jar lights in between the windows.

Here is an inspiration picture. We're thinking about a similar beadboard kneewall treatment (but hope it's not too much beadboard).

How exciting!! We are wanting to add a sunroom & I told my hubby I want a breadboard ceiling .... Love love all the white...& bringing in a bit of color & warmth with acces... Exactly what we have in mind.... I will be following this thread closely!!

mama-sweetT - I hope you get your sunroom! We are looking forward to our new room so much. It used to be a screened porch; we enlarged it and added the windows w/screens. I'll attach another of my inspiration photos...a white sunroom that the owner (Hooked on Houses blogger) changes out each season with colorful accessories.

Just to think out of the box, would you consider white walls with a blue ceiling?

What a pretty room. I love your inspiration pictures with the white ceiling and beadboard wainscoting. A white or cream would look really nice, IMO.

AnnieDeighnaugh - We did consider the "haint blue" for the ceiling. I like that look, but we ruled it out...we decided to open up the ceiling and go with the vaulted ceiling...seemed like too much blue with the pitched ceiling. Thank you for your input! Love the photos you shared!

marti8a - Thx for your comments as well! I do love the beadboard & the clean look of the white/cream. Then I can change up the room with accessories.

I’m ready to redecorate my run room as it’s been used for a playroom for my grands the last 10 years. It was built about 20 years ago and was never painted. What type of sun does your room get. I’m also looking to paint mine after 15 years...the sun crosses from east-west.
