| Are braided rugs strictly for country/primitive decor? JCP has one with a color combo that I like. My decor is definitely not comtemporary and does lean toward the primitive side. I guess when I think of braided rugs, I think of Early American (eagles and maple captains chairs). But, I'm wondering if placed in another room (sans eagles and maple), if it would look less country. |
Follow-Up Postings:

| I've seen them work wonderfully in decidely 'non country' rooms. In fact, I'm putting two of them in my family room, where they'll be combined with an overstuffed leather couch and chair, a cherry and smoked glass electronics corner console, and several small mahoghany chests I use as end tables. No eagles in this room and no captains chairs, and definitely not country primitive - I think of it more as 'modern American comfortable'. |

| Love2Weed - we posted at the same time. Yes, I think that rug would work well in your room - the colors look like they'd be complementary, and the muted pattern of the braided rug wouldn't fight with the bold pattern of the chair. An added plus to braided rugs is that they're reversible - twice the wear in a busy family room is a good thing! I like the combo of that rug in your room. |
| for whatever reason, the rectangular braided rug strikes me as less 'country' than an oval one would i think. i think it would look nice in your room and look nice with your chair! |
| busybee3--that is exactly my thought too on the shape--the rectangle gives it a little modern flair. I think I will order it from JCP--just keeping my fingers crossed that the colors are true when it gets here. I'm afraid that the red is going to be more of an orange. The color is "Tuscan Clay". |

| I agree that the rectangle is perfect for the room. Great chair! |
| The rug is lovely, but it definitely screams "country" to me--- and there's nothing wrong with country. But if it's a look you want to avoid I would keep searching. |
| I also think the braided rug is too country for your room ; I would not abandon your idea of a rug with red in it, although the one above is quiet and elegant, I like it. |
| Because of the rectangle, it does not scream country to me. It only whispers ;) If you like the rug and could use it elsewhere, I'd not worry about the country aspect. I picture much thicker rugs that are oval when I think of a braided rug. This one is more of a weave. FWIW, I did not like it with the bold print chair. Their vibes were not complementary. It would have been ok at best. |

| Finding a rug with a little bit of red is hard. I've been trying for a while. What about getting a large rug in a neutral and putting a red rug on top of it, under the coffee table? OR, maybe a neutral rug that is bound with red? I love that chair fabric. Can you tell me the name of it? |
| Cindyloo123--the chair fabric is from Hancock Fabrics. I have to tell the story about the chair. I had originally purchased the fabric for drapes, but decided it was too busy. I've had the chair for years, but not using it anywhere. Just for the heck of it, I called an upholsterer from CL to see what the cost would be to recover it my big red floral fabric. I figured heck maybe I can find someone to do it for around $100 bucks. Well I did fine someone to do it, but for $60 bucks. I couldn't believe when they quoted me that price. When they took the chair away I didn't know what to expect. But three days later they brought it back and I just love it. I felt a little like I was taking candy from a baby--I figure they were just starting out and didn't know what to charge. I wanted to give them more, but DH said absolutley not. |

| I'm glad you chose the other rug. That rug, in a different setting, might not seem too country, but I'm afraid with your FP and some of the other items in the room, it would have had a raised voice saying 'COUNTRY'. However, I DO think that rug could work in my family room...it's rustic and 'western'...maybe I'll check into it for us! |

| I like the rug you chose, and your chair. I have a couple of braided rugs, and some natural braided jute that I really like. My decor is not country (not an eagle in sight) but the house is pre-revolutionary so it is early american even if my furniture is not. :) I like the rectangle shape of the JCP rug and think it makes things more modern. |

| This thread is from November 2011, brought up from the dead by a spammer. Let's hope the OP has found the perfect rug by now. |
| Curious, but why is the comment that bumped this back up considered spam? I don't see the point in reactivating this post, but why is it spam? Just trying to understand. I love the OP's chair, btw. |
