I Googled baseboard trim on stairs and found the images shown at the link below. Yours is a more shallow transition, but I think you may get some ideas from what you see there.

I googled for ideas as well. However, the problem is on the left side with the transition from the top down to the step and then to the left. I need to decide how to transition from above to the step alongside the wall.

This picture isn't your same exact problem, but it does show how the baseboard was handled in a similarly awkward situation.

Then there's this stairway with baseboard molding.

I'd cut some paper or cardboard to the height of your molding and experiment with different options.

No offense intended, camlan, but IMHO that "solution" with the carpeting is just awful. The transition between the bottom set of stairs and the landing looks purely bad DIY and would need to be removed. The trim molding (on top of the baseboard-can't think of the right name at the moment) should have been coped and cut to create the right angle between the steps and the straight edge of the landing. If I paid a carpenter and this was the solution, there would have been no payment until it was done correctly.

I would trim the riser under the top narrow step similar to the wide step. Then I would do the baseboard like camlan's last picture shows. Kind of like this:
