Can you lengthen the panels and use ceiling mounted hardware? It would give an even cleaner look and avoid the issue about supports.

Kirsch makes a 2' metal decorative traversing rod that might work. You'd have to purchase it through a dealer. This link will take you to the website so you can locate a dealer in your area.

Thanks so much, AnnieD and Beverly. Lengthening the panels probably is not a possibility right now unless we add a third color. I'll check out the Kirsch -- looks like it is as easy as our nearest JCP. (ETA: oddly, they are rated to hold only 20 pounds of fabric -- my panels might be above that due to length)

We were presented with some nice motorized traversing options that might work, as well. We really need that or a cord operated option -- the panels are 14 feet long

Look for "contract" window hardware, sold to the trade. You can often start with a manufacturer and find local dealers from their website.

Overstock has some, as does amazon. I like the ones in the link, which are operated by remote control and are available with center or side opening.

Thanks so much, beverly, marcolo and peacamp. We did try a trade source and may eventually go with that option. I've seen some great Kravet hardware but the price makes me shudder. We also went to the Shade Store and they have some great looking options. I've seen the erod solution and it is rated for sufficient weight, although the ideal solution would be a continuous rod like the sompfy (via trade sources but not very decorative).
