I'm facing the same challenge with a 22' ceiling peak. Thin electric cords come in all different colors, or you can use a metal cable. Those looks are very modern and are good alternatives to link chains. I'll try to find some photos for you.

You may be able to request extra long cords from the lighting supplier or have your electrician splice a longer cord.

I'm not suggesting this chandelier (but if you're interested it's $17K ... whaaaat?), but look at the cord. That's the kind of style you need to look for.

Another cable example. Really long rods just don't look as good IMO.

Search "linear suspension" chandeliers/lighting.

I like the first one, but I'd have to sell the house to buy it. I am finding that the champagne taste/beer budget thing is going on - lottsa pendants in the $1500+ range. I appreciate your thoughts, jujubean.
