I'm a Rug Dummy' - Plese show me pics of flat woven rugs?

| I posted yesterday asking for help in locating a less expensive version of a Garnet Hill I had found and got some great info as well as a link to Overstock for the very same rug, SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. I think my post is on page 2. I am embarassed to say, I don't know if I have ever seen a flat weave rug in person. Does anyone have pictures they could share? A close-up would be great also. From my research today, I do understand they will be flatter (duh) and not as plush as knotted rugs. Does that bother you? Does it feel "cheaper"? The one I am looking at is beautiful and looks well made.
Please share your knowledge/experience with me. Stock is low at Overstock so I need to decide soon!

| I was just going to post a pix of our Soumak rug but then thought I'd just Google...is this it? http://www.overstock.com/Worldstock/Soumak-Hand-knotted-Rug-Gold-Peach-68-x-98/2944155/product.html My exp with Soumaks has been nothing but incredible. They wear like iron, don't show wear and are just darn beautiful. I've had 2 over 20 yrs in our mudroom and foyer...still not dirty lol!! (they've never needed cleaning...and I'm not the most frequent vacumner either lol) They are flat...not tufted. I don't know if all manufacturers are equal but I really don't think it's much of a risk personally. Fantastic rugs. |

| Oh, it's probably a similar design but not the same rug. Your's was tufted, this is not. |

| That is a flat weave or Soumak rug. I have 5 in my home. I love them. None were cheap, but the one I paid the least for does have a looser weave - so there are various price levels (and qualities) available. My foyer rug is new (just got two days ago) and I haven't taken a picture of it (green background). Great Room: 
(Note: Not normally wavy, that was just after delivery and it had not settled - large 10x14 rug)

I will worn you, they are not soft. Not as scratchy as sisal, but not something children would want to play on. We have pets and they hold up very well. I use felt pads underneath on the wood floors and felt pads backed with rubber on the travertine. |

| Another beautiful rug, ideefixe. Tuesday, your rug shows up on the Shades of Light link that Allison posted. Again at a much higher price point than on Overstock. The reason I love flat weaves, so much, is that they lend a texture and more organic feel to a space. This is the hand-knotted round rug I ended up with for my dining room.
This is the hand-woven rug I really wanted.
Nothing really wrong with the first one, bit it's a little too sweet for my tastes. Unfortunately, the flat-weave's 8'x10' was too large for the area and they didn't have a smaller size that would have worked, either. |

| I don't have a picture, but the one I have in my living room is a Nourison Nourmak rug. I like it so much I just ordered a second one for my family room. The one I have in my LR is kind of similar to the one pictured above in Allison's DR. |

| Thanks everyone for the pictures; they are all beautiful. I ordered the one from Overstock last night. Parma, I also saw that one in Shades of Light - I am just amazed at the price difference between Overstock and Garnet Hill and Shades of Light. I guess Overstock is going to be my new BFF. I just hope I am not disappointed in the black border, but I am trying to tie it in with black floral pillows. I keep going back and looking at it and it seems to take away from the "earthiness". But, every room needs a little black I guess. One more question, what is the best type of pad for the flat weaves?? Tuesday |

| Thanks. I tried to answer you the day after your pad question, but wasn't able to post. :-/ I have the better felt pads under mine. They come with or without a rubber like backing (some have a definite/thick rubber backing - I would only use that kind on tile floors). |

| I really like the way they look but did find the scratchy element to be too much for me. Probably because I lay on the floor all the time with the dogs. |

| You no longer have to register before posting. It was disabled. I didn't get the memo. ;D But you do have to accept cookies, so check your settings. I'm looking for 4 foot wide by 12+ rugs/runners for my lower level hallways, if anyone knows of a source. I'd like for them to match or be in the same family if not identical. TIA |
