The ones that came with my table are flannel-ish. Works ok, although it is very light weight but all they do is stand in a corner of a closet when not in use. My only complaint is it works kind of like a long envelope and there's no way to secure the flap - I'd like a velcro closure or something. Is your friend's bedroom carpeted or smooth floor? Flannel would be difficult to slide in and out on carpet and will be a dust (and dust mite) magnet under a bed. Some vinyls have a soft flannel like backside. I'd be tempted to use something like that under a bed. Easy to slide in and out, wipes off with a damp cloth.

That's a great idea...why not buy a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth and use it for the leaf cover...water/dirt/dust resistant outside, scratch resistant inside...

I read that you shouldn't store the extra leaves standing, because they could bow if they are stored that way. Supposedly, it's best to store them flat.

hhireno I've never heard that but at this point, it's probably too late! We've had this table since 1982 and it's 2" solid teak, not veneer, nothing has ever warped or bowed. Maybe in the next house I'll have a place with flat storage.

I think there's a project looming after we move - a new table leaf cover.

We've stored ours on end for 30 yrs and now flat (under bed) and haven't had an issue with warping either way.
