Ever heard of cocciopesto?

Oct issue of Trad'l home mag has a pic of a table topped with what they call cotto pesto...on line, they say cocciopesto. Apparently, "Coccio"(cotto fragments) is crushed and polverized, mixed with resins and other aggregates, colored with natural pigments to obtain any polychrome combination that can be used to create various types of handmade items of different size and shapes."

The table top looks like it's made of lapis lazuli...here's another sample of it. But apparently it comes in many custom colors, can be shaped and designed into artwork or flooring or other things. So interesting! And I'm sure not cheap!

(Aside to mtnrd...if you have the issue, check out the seahorse sculpture on pg. 54...I thought of your beach guest room....the colors are great and they almost look like chinese dragons...)

Here is a link that might be useful: cocciopesto
