flame retardant chemicals in furniture foam

I read about flame retardant chemicals that are used in furniture foam this morning and it just made me feel uneasy.

We are in the market for a new couch - has any one researched much about this or know of furniture manufacturers who don't use these chemicals? Thanks in advance -

This is a great broadcast that was on NPR. I worry all the time as my DIL is nursing and the stuff I have heard/read says that mother's milk contains LOADS of this poison. She has open places on their old sofas and has covered them up since I sent along the info that I had read. I still worry as I think the damage has been done as far as how easy it is for a person to soak up these toxins. And they are in HUGE amounts. There are interesting articles about how to get furniture that doesn't have this stuff in it. I need to look and find the one I am thinking of. It sure is one more thing to worry about isn't it ???

There has been lots of concern about this. Linking an opinion piece that gives some details of which I was unaware.

Thanks so much guys for all of this great info - I am starting to feel more confident I can make an informed choice. Once again I say: GW is fantastic!
