I think it will look odd if it is wider than the sofa. However, you can use a console table on any empty wall, so perhaps you might want to use this custom beauty in your entry or under a wall-mounted television or in another application where its beauty can be fully appreciated.

I agree - I wouldn't hide the custom table behind a sofa - just get a "working" table for behind the sofa to house a lamp and whatever else you planned to put on that table, and put the new table in a more prominent place.

I don't know why you would you even want to hide a beautiful custom table behind anything..

So... I need a very shallow console table, so I asked my dad if he had some leftover planks he had made years ago from a fallen tree in our woods. One thing lead to another, and now he wants to have a really nice table made for me! I sure can't complain. :) Given your advice, I think I will put this table in a more prominent spot. So now I have a new question: any idea where I can find an inexpensive console table that's roughly 7" deep and 60" long?

Seven inches is pretty shallow. I think the narrowest I've seen is about 11 inches. If this is just for lamps, I would probably consider using floor lamps instead. Alternatively, I would consider buying three - four posts the correct height and having a glass top cut to size.

Actually, Fun2B, its primary purpose is to push the loveseat into the room some (not too much!) so the room feels more cozy and the loveseat front feet are on the rug. (Right now I have a board stuck behind the rear feet.) It'll be fun to put decorative items on it, too. I'll continue my search for a narrow table... Thanks for the input!
