Yay, found our fireplace tile! Tile 'hearth' too?

Found a fireplace tile I love (at Costco no less, so reasonable!) We used to have tile around the fireplace, and a few squares on the 'hearth' but it was not raised at all, just on the ground.

Should I do the hardwood right up to the fireplace, with no tile 'hearth', or should I do some tile on the ground as well. The tile would be the same as the front entrance. Matching isn't too bad actually.

What do you think looks better? it's a gas fireplace. I think seeing the pics I'm leaning towards hardwood right up to the fireplace.

We were going to put hardwood all the way up to the fireplace to make the space look "bigger", but EVERY single contractor was like....Oh really? That's different!

Not that you have to do what everyone else does, but we wanted our remodel to make sense within the neighborhood. I think a tiled hearth looks more traditional, so we switched to that.

I actually like the framing of tile up to the fireplace, for some reason. Anchors it, somehow! But totally up to you!

I'd check with your local code office first, you may be required to have a certain amount of fire resistant material in front.

I'm almost done remodeling our FP. I was amazed at how particular some of the items were, such as amount of distance around the opening vs depth of mantel, etc.

Lovely tile though!

Our fireplace is a wood burning fireplace, so we have to have one. I don't think a gas only, direct vent fireplace needs one. If you are not sure, I'd check on local safety building codes.
Personally, I think a hearth makes a fireplace look more "real", but that's possibly my age showing.

Thank you all! My floor tile looks greenish in the pic, but it doesn't look that way at all in the front. I did ask our tile guy about hardwood up to the fireplace, he said it would be fine, but he's a tile guy, not an inspector.

I'll call our local office this week.

I just assumed it was required to have tile in front of the fireplace until my floor guy asked what I wanted in front of the fireplace. He thought the wood would look better. I started asking around and couldn't find anything that said I was required to have tile in front. I still thought wood seemed odd until I saw a picture of RTWilliams fireplace and it changed my mind. I ended up going with wood and I love it!
